  • My sister is buying nitrous

When I bought my Hawk I sold my old 96 3.8L Camaro to my sister. I got a message the other day while I was installing my LCAs/Relocation Brackets and other suspension pieces. My sister wanted to know if she had the 3.8L engine. I called her back and told her it was the 3.8L and she said good, that's what I ordered the headers for. Apparently she's ordered Pacesetter headers, is having the shop fab up a dual exhaust system, and is having a nitrous and purge kit installed.

First of all my sister can barely drive as it is. She scares the hell out of anyone who rides with her. The thought that she is going to be driving that same way with nitrous scares me. I know she street races with it and now she's going to be spraying on the street. She doesn't know the first thing about nitrous. She doesn't even know what freekin engine is in her car. I have a feeling this is all the influence of her new boyfriend who owns a highly modded SRT-4 and is also going to court soon to try to keep his license because of multiple street racing tickets.

What can I do, she's already bought and payed for all the parts and she's having the headers at least installed today. I don't care about the headers and exhaust but the nitrous bothers me. Not only because I fear for her well being but I also worry for my old camaro. I know she is either going to wreck it or blow up the engine, she doesn't know the first thing about nitrous or how to use it. She thinks she can just go really fast at the press of a button whenever she wants. She doesn't understand the strain it puts on the motor or the dangers of using it.

Any suggestions or advice as to what I can tell her to change her mind about using N20 or at least if she's going to use it to use it at the track only? I really don't want to get called to the hospital some night or worse, called to the accident to identify her body...

She has never once polished those damn wheels. I've gone out late at night and polished them because they were getting so bad I thought the would get to the point of no return. She doesn't take care of that car and she sure as hell doesn't need nitrous.

maybe if she is somewhat frugal you can explain to her that it will soon be illegal to have an opened nitrous bottle in your car in just about every state. that probably will not work, though.

don't take this the wrong way because i don't wish anything bad upon your sister, but it might be a lesson she has to learn herself. hopefully it will just be in the form of a burned piston or something sort of minor like that.

She's 17 and just finished her junior year of high school.

What about them? I pretty sure they don't know about any of this and I don't want to be the one to tell them the news though it might be best if I did since I'm sure she would make it sound innocent.

I don't know.. might seem like a pansy way out of it.. but maybe telling the parents isn't such a good idea. I believe nitrous should only be used when it's put in the hands of people that can handle it. Adding more power to an already weak driver can only amount to no good. I say sit her down, talk to her, then if she still wants to go through with it, maybe tell the parents since they can take her car away and whatnot.

Tell her parents lol. I told my parents every little thing I put into my car.. try convincing parents $3000 on wheels and tires is a smart investment lol. Either way I have a feeling the little girl is on her parents insurance. Have a even bigger feeling they want to know if she is going to blow the thing up or severly increase her chances of wrecking.

Based on what you've said, her engine wont have a very long life. If she doesn't even know what engine she has under the hood she definitely doesn't understand how to use nitrous properly.

change the nitrous jets for her safty, if she doesnt know that much about cars, then she wont know what to expect from nitrous. first, i would talk to her about it.

yeah... put tiny jets in it, or no jets at all and shell blow the motor and wont want nitrous anymore.

sounds like to me your camaro will be and has been getting the dog **** ran out of it. Try to talk some sense into her. If all else fails break down and tell the parents and see if they can do something about it.
