  • Is there such a thing...as Free Spyware Cleaning Downloads?

Can someone direct me to a site that doesn't lure you into paying ;) Or at least suggest a decent program to use. Thanks!

Spybot and Adaware. Search google and it will link you to a download.com link for them. They are great!

^ I agree with those two choices. Look into HiJack This! if you've found your browser has been "posessed" by things like the xlime.offeroptimizer crap. Works well to keep your browser from going to strange search sites if a url isn't found also...

spybot s&d is what i use. go to zdnet..click downloads...then type spybot in the search field...

it is listed as spybot: search and destroy and i've used it on my system and i have no problems, and we used it on a friend's computer and it found things that adaware didnt.

          Worth a shot.

I heard spybot is getting obsolete, only catching like 60% of the stuff...

but here is a link to the same thread on antoehr board

            http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...hreadid=274682

I am downloading ad-aware as we speak... so I am up to 4 programs on my comptuer to stop adware and pop-ups.

The new Spybot update is great. But both adaware and spybot are great. I would suggest running both just to cover your A$S

I use both Spybot and Adaware. Both find things the other doesn't. Of course this is just my windows box which I don't use very often. My Linux box doesn't suffer the popup/spyware woes:)

Yeah, AOL should have them for free. You can download. Forgot now how I did it. I think you go to keyword and type in Spyware.

Get Ad-Aware. It's the best one out there. The only people who diss Ad-Aware are the ones that don't know how to Update the program.

Be SURE that you check/download updates daily before doing scans. That Spybot program is trash.

For now...rest assured there's already code out there that is being found as "if" statements in javascript that is slowing tearing away at FireFox's "shell" against adware.

There's no escaping it, honestly. Just deal and run Ad-Aware programs. Think spam will stop? Not anytime soon. A bill just got rejected the other day for attempting to kill off spam solicitors and creating a global opt-out program.
