• quitting smoking

As ya'll remember (lol which I doubt) I quit smoking over a year ago and I posted here about quitting.

I was off for 5 months, then relapsed for 1 month, then quit again. It's been 7 months now (since AIS III). The reason I relapsed was because me and my friends kept going to this place called hooka-bar (not HOOKER bar). Basically it's this big bong with water and flavored tobacco on top. Well, I thought that tobacco didn't have nicotine (lol), so we kept smoking it like everyday. Next thing I know I'm reaching for cig, because I get overwhelming withdrawal symptoms. I felt miserable for caving in to my addiction. But after a month I beat it again.

I know there are people here that want to quit, but think it's too hard and all that other crap. Yes, it's hard first week, then it gets very easy. Then you just stop thinking about it like it was never even part of your life.

Site that helped me is: www.whyquit.com
read all the information contained there, it's pretty informative
There are basically 3 rules to quitting:
1. You must want to quit
2. You must NEVER ever take another puff. And never take any nicotine containing products in your life.
3. You must learn how to deal with occasional desire to light up (it's extremely rare, but it's present).

Are you just quitting cold turkey? How long did you smoke before AISIII?

I was a smoker for ~5 years. Only relapse time is when I'm drinking heavily or under large amounts of stress at school. It really takes dedication no doubt!

Keep the streak goin, I wish I could! Doesn't help that even my gf smokes. I tried making her quit, she didn't like it.

I'm working on quitting right now... I have 3 left. I'm trying to save 1 for tomorrow at work then thats it.

I will only smoke if I'm going out drinking.

4 months. Wellbutrin is your friend. I'd say good luck, but you don't need luck -- you'll kick it.

I quit on Monday of last week, so today is day 8. Patch + Zyban (aka Wellbutrin). New career where just about no one smokes makes it that much easier.

I've been smoking cloves for the past 6 years and it's been a week and 2 days since I decided to quit. So far so good!! I've been fighting the urge to light one up everytime I get behind the wheel, but I've been suckin' down the lolli-pops instead like there's no tomorrow. My biggest problem is that I'm doing this all alone. Everyone tells me that if you have someone quit with you, it's much easier. I'm digging deep for will power.......that's for sure.

Sounds like you're doing just fine., congrats ....I checked out that site you linked, and if that's not enough reason to make someone quit....I don't know what else would help.

Nice. I'm sure your doctor told you this, but be careful with alcohol while you're on the Zyban. It can induce seizures.

I'm in my 3rd month without cigs. My sister quit 6 months ago and hasn't looked at a smoke since.
I only smoke when I drink and I never really drink. I work at a bar so I get to see everyday the effects of drinking and smoking. Thats helps me stay away from the Kools.

8-06-01 was the last day I have had a cigarette.

The urge seems to come out of no where for me and I must realize that it will pass.

At one time in my life I think I honestly thought that I could not live without smoking.

Good luck! :D

That's something I think every smoker is familar with and no non-smoker can understand.
