If we're talking a Bourbon Whiskey nothing beats (IMO) Gentleman's Jack. Its smoother than Makers Mark but has more flavor than regular No. 7.
If you like Single Malt Scotch Whisky my favorites are Highland Park 12 and Glen Livet 12. Dont think that the older the scotch the better the taste. Experiement and find what you like best - Glenfiddich is popular but its basically the Jack No. 7 of the Single malt world.
As for Irish and Canadian Whiskey Im not too knowledable but I occasionally will drink Jameson's or Club Royal.
I still maintain that Jack should be served on the rocks (I even like it out of the freezer as cold as possible, but this is off the main stream).
Scotch served straight up w/ a twist at room temperature.
