  • E85 Ethanol Fuel

    http://www.e85fuel.com/

105 octane and its cheaper than regular gas. Has anyone tried running it in a Camaro yet? It seems like it would be fine if you mix with with regular gas so it would be like 50/50 mix(Regular gas already has 10% ethanol in it).

FWIW, regular gas has up to 10%. Around here, that Up To is actually 0%. ;)

We're also not listed as being able to use it according to their site. I don't think I'd want to risk it.

I beleive there are companies offering a conversion kit to safely run E85.

I do not think I would just put it in any car that I care about without researching the consequences first.

You need a Flexible Fuel Vehicle. Mostly, they're certain models of SUVs and pickups, or some Mercedes Benz.

There are no commercially available conversion kits.

E85 is perfectly safe as a fuel.
It is 85% Alcohol and 15% gasoline.
15% gasoline so you can see it when it burns in case of fire (alcohol burns clear).

You CANNOT run it in your car becuase to run stoichometrically (is this a word) you need to inject almost twice as much ethanol as fuel. If you ran ethanol you would run super lean on a stock computer.

Ethanol has been used for a long time, and known about even longer. Its made from corn, which is a totally renewable resource and burns very clean. My question is, why haven't we all switched over a LONG time ago? Oil conspiracy? Dunno.

Ethanol vehicles usually get about half (a little more) of the MPG as a regular car but have larger fuel tanks. So think about it, ethanol would have to be around $1.50 a gallon to be cheaper than gasoline. If everyone used it, it would be dirt cheap. I think its a way better look toward the future than hydrogen, solar, electric, etc...
I would like to see an ethanol hybrid.

By the way, I work with an ethanol car every day...
This is the ethanol car I work on.
