I need help bad!!!!!!!!!

OMG! I'm really stressed right now with my car situation. For those of you who don't know, I have a '97 30th Anniversary Edition which I love very much and have put alot of work into. Unfortuneatly, the engine went out and I came really close to buying another car even though I didn't want to do that. The only thing that kept me from buying another car, was the phone call we recieved right when we were negotiating the price on the car I really didn't want. The call was my husband's cousin. He said he would hate to see me get rid of my camaro since he knew how much time I had put into it and how much it meant to me. He offered to tow the car to our mechanic and pay for everything as long as we paid him back. That was music to my ears and saved me from making a potentially bad decision.

Once he towed the car to the shop, he spoke to Steve (the owner) and told him the situation. Steve supposedly told him it was fine for us to just make payments to him instead. Sounds good right! Wrong.

Well, now as of yesterday my car is complete and the shop wants the money for the total bill which is $1700. Nobody knows anything about a payment plan and my husband's cousin has retracted his offer as well. So now I have no car and no money to pay for it.

I love my Camaro and hate that this happened. I have put so much of my time into this car. Everyone who knows me, knows how much my car means to me.

I'll probably sound like a bum for this, but can anyone spare anything to help me out? Even if it's $1 it'll be greatly and deeply appreciated.

So what was wrong with the car anyway to be costing so much?

Did you sign anything?

Perhaps you guys can workout a payment plan so nobody loses anything.

The engine just had too many issues. The head gaskets, the water pump, oil pump, and intake manifold was leaking.

I went to the bank first to borrow some money and they wouldnt approve me b/c I dont have collateral. All I wanted was about $3-4k b/c I was just going to do an LT1 swap. But they did approve me for $17k for a car! How stupid, they'll give me $17k but not $4k!

Anyways, I just went and got my car the other day by borrowing money from alot of different people who really couldn't afford to help me but they did. So now, I owe alot of people money and this is all because of my husbands cousin who made false promises. I am now looking for a part time job to help pay back all those who helped me. This whole situation sucks.

Ok, but now the alternator is crapping out, there's a crack in the radiator and I still need to replace my fuel pump. I love my car, but DAMN! its too much maintenance!
