• Just not sure about Corvette and Porsche in Dec R&R

I got my Dec issue of Road & Track in the mail today !

1/4 times : Corvette : 12.9
Porsche 911 Carrera S : 12.8
Corvette : as we All know 400 horsepower
400 lb torque - most of us know the torque is the real thing that makes the power !

Porsche : 355 horsepower
295 torque

It just seems to me the Vette should beat the porsche , by atleast a little bit
But the porsche has higher gears ...hmmmm
what you guys think ?

Does the guy in the vette not shift as well ?

Lousy vette driver
New vette goes mid 12's
Typically magazines don't post the best times..... poor track conditions, weather, traction etc
Race car - gone but not forgotten - 1997 firebird V6
nitrous et & mph: 12.168 & 110.95 mph, n/a 13.746 & 96.38 mph
2013 Dodge Challenger SRT8: 12.125, 116.45
2010 Ford Taurus SHO: no times yet

I bet the Corvette gets him off the line but the Porsche catchs him in the high end. Do you have trap speeds or 60' times?

I thought the new vettes were pulling high 11s bone stock? Isn't that how they are shreading the rearends?

first off, the new vette are capable of 11's with a good tire and a good clutch, but with street tires, hell no. Also ive heard w/a good tire the new vettes are having problems with breaking the rear ends.

also about the getting the vette getting ahead off the line and coming back, no. The vette has more power and will most likely have a slower 60'. I bet its the other way around. The porshe gets the line and the Porshe will barely edge out the vette at the line.

Also, torque isnt what runs the quickest at the track, horsepower does. been proven many times.

I agree with the Vettes ... the rear end is the weak link in those things :(

Kinda sucks that you can beat the car up cause it's got too much damn power, it breaks stuff.

If you read in the comparison, they talk about the fact that the Porsche gets a better launch because of its' rear weight bias and the slight 70 lbs. weight advantage it has. They also note that the Vette has better acceleration from a roll because the torque advantage. And they pointed out that while the Porsche was .1 quicker in the quarter, the Vette trapped at 112.3 vs. 110.2 for the 911.

Read Car and driver... they do a test comparing the two, and the Vette wins. Thats compairng handling, comfort, convienence power, full mileage etc...
