I have been having a lot of problem with my laptop overheating and turning itself off lately. It is not very old, a little over a year and just around April I guess is when I started noticing the fans going on a lot more often without me doing as much on it. Now pretty much everytime I run Spybot or Virus Scan the the fans go crazy and eventually it turns itself off. Is there anything I can do to keep this from happening or to fix it? Thanks.

yeah check the fans and stuff make sure there is no dust blocking any of the air passages on your laptop that will case it to over heat really really fast.
I am not a big computer person, how do I go about cleaning the fans. It seems like I would not be able to get the case off my laptop very easily because there are 2 screws right under where the screen moves up (right under the axis of rotation).

You're desk should dissapate heat fine, if the fans are in fact working correctly then its either clogged or a heatsink/processor problem I would guess.
What brand laptop? Some have built in diags to test the temp and fans and such!
many laptops have this issue. Alot of stuff is crammed into a small, think chassis. Its very hard to get good air flow.
I'd try turning off your computer when you're done with it, like at night.
Since you said it happens when you run scanner programs leads me to believe that it may be hdd related, and the fact that its hot could just be coinsedence.
If its heat related then its because the cpu is getting to hot, so I'd take it to where ever you bought it and have them crack open the case and dust it off. also have them check the heatsink fan(s) and the heatsink fitment to make sure there's good contact to the heat dissapator on the processor.
I had this problem with my Dell....basically there is dust in the fans....just get some compressed air and blow it in all sides of where the fans are around the processor.

Great guys thanks a lot, yeah it is a Dell so I will buy a compressed air can and see how that works and if it still does not work it is covered under warranty still so I can call them and get them to fix it for me. I lived in a dorm last year and I think the air filter got changed once throughout the whole year so it got pretty dusty in our room so hopefully that is the culprit. Thanks a lot.
