Well after losing the camaro I have found out that my stepdad is looking at getting me a cherokee or grand cherokee becuase I want off the ground and I need somethign I can drive in the winter in charlottesville. Now he's looking at a v8 grand cherokee thats loaded and a few with the inline 6 and I'm just wondering what Everyone's opinion is on the jeeps and what motor I should go with. I like the 8 cyl better just because its LOADED sunroof, leather, cd player, etc. but I've heard lots of horror stories regarding the motor. The 6's arnt loaded but the motor gets no end of praise. Whats everyones opinion on this 6 or 8?(Used by the way Im talkin like 9 grand max prolly more like 7-8)

Well, my experience is with the inline 6.
My bro had a 94 wrangler.... 115,000-120,000 miles?
It survived ANYTHING!
He avoided oil changes, tune ups, basically ANY regular maintenance!
The kid barely knows how to START a car.... let alone be aware it has 4 tires!
I don't know much about the v8 engine.... but after seeing the abuse my bro put his inline 6 thru... the inline 6 gets my vote!Race car - gone but not forgotten - 1997 firebird V6
nitrous et & mph: 12.168 & 110.95 mph, n/a 13.746 & 96.38 mph

Yeah, 190 hp, i think 210 lb. ft. at a pretty low rpm, good for offroading.
My friend has a laredo with the i-6, it gets pretty good gas mileage(dont know the amount)Black \'94 Trans Am A4- SLP CAI & Loudmouth<br />Red \'93 Firebird A4- Ram Air under the WS6 hood, !cat, exhaust.

Don't know about the 8cyc, but my dad has a grand cherokee limited. He has everything but a sunroof. You can find a 6cyc "Grand Cherokee LIMITED" with all the options even heated seats! Just look for the limited's they have more options. My dad's limited 6cyc is close if not past 200k, he uses dino (regular) oil, and changes it about every 30 thousand miles, no kidding.
Although he has had to have to tranny rebuilt at about 150,xxx I think. And most if not all limited have the "all-time 4x4" I've heard to front differentials go out at 150,xxx too. My dad's did, he just took out the front drive shaft. Said he picked up 3mpg too. Although it now rolls while in park, so he has to pull e-brake.
He says he will never by anything but a grand cherokee. True tranny/front diff went out, but thats over 200k miles, and me and him both do the same line of work, and trust me when I say we abuse our vehicles. On road and off.
btw 6cyc = 15.7mpg avg. (remember seeing it on the digital read out) edit-before he took out front drive shaft
i think the 8cyc gets like 11 or 12.

The only reason the 8 is an option is because it is in the price range at decent miles, gas is not a big issue its pretty much the only thing I have to pay for on the car, and I dont intend to race it maybe an exhaust but its not going to race this is strictly on the issue of reliability and I know the 6's last forever what Im really lookin for I guess is how the 8's hold up in day to day use with good maitenance(I know i spelled that wrong)

If I were you I'd be looking for a vehicle that would last forever so you can save your pennies to buy that Uber-car that you really want after it (a couple years down the road, of course!)
