• Speaking of Cancer..... you guys see this yet?

IF you leave your computer on 24/7 like I do this is great...

    http://www.grid.org/projects/cancer/

It's a cancer research program- it researches the cure for cancer with your spare CPU cycles. It will not slow your computer down at all. Period. It's very unobtrusive and only uses what would otherwise be used by the 'idle process'. Most of us have it installed on multiple computers...

this has been around www.camaroz28.com (its a sticky in their lounge again)

I have installed it recently on my computer and it does not effect your normal operations at all...

Also they have a friendly competition, they rank the maount of process you donate in points... right now team Camaroz28 is 95th place. Thats beating out the country of Romania, a couple Universities, and just recently passed up Novell and are catching up on a group of S2000 owners.

    here is the program...

    http://www.grid.org/download/gold/download.htm

You guys can either join up with the team on www.camaroz28.com or start are own but I think it will be very hard for us to even compete, since our site is not exactly overflowing people.

More info on the program here...

Good find Eric. I've been running distributed.net for several years now, and I dedicate my cycles exclusively to OGR for the last while ...

I like distributed computing when the power isn't my dime, though I guess it all comes back in the end.

I say we join. No way we could compete with camaroz28 alone, so might as well help fellow f-bod owners...

honestly... camaroz28.com is waaaay out of your guys league...

I think this place might have a hard time getting enough to be in the top 1,000

I think team camaroz28.com got ~15 new comptuers hooked up to it in the last week alone, more they what total is here... I am fore grouping up f-body enthusiusts... besides its cool that we are beating actual countries...

When did it become a competition? I thought we were doing it to help cancer research. I never thought we could compete with Camaroz28.com -- actually I never even considered that we would be trying.

Well its not really a competition... but makes it somewhat exciting...

and when people look at it they will see camaro z28 and think, wow f-body guys grouped together and maybe spread the word of f-bodies.

I know you might be thinking the same about v6 f-bodies but I have a strong feeling it might no make it into the top 1,000, are cancer fighting efforts will work but won't have really spread teh word of anything.

yOu guys can start a new team sounds good to me

Eric, I am doing that, except that I am doing protein folding with my spare cycles. The program I am doing folds proteins using different algorithms. This will hopefully help us understand better how proteins work on the atomic and molecular level. It's cool stuff!

well for anyone that cares... just glimpsing at the rankings... for the last 3 weeks of cycles... it looks like team camaroz28 has been doing enough points a week to put it up in the top 30

Just needs more time to accumulate total points.
