• Update on: Rock to the Windshield tonight...

Thankfully, it was my Cavalier. Anyway, got a baseball-sized rock to the windshield and now it's all cracked and messed up. I got the plate # and did a police report with the state police. Now I guess I take the report to the insurance company. If I have to pay for this sh*t I'm really gonna be pissed off!!! Any thoughts/comments/suggestions? Thanks..

If you have full coverage it should be covered I know some on hit my windshield with a rock one night that was a nice thing to wake up to anyway it cost 100 dollars to replace with insurance other wise it would of been 300.

That's good to hear. Thanks for that info. I'll have to look up my deductable (can't remember what it is offhand). I'm thinking the insurance company may go after the tractor trailer company to cover it, but who knows. I never had this happen in my 11 years of commuting 65 miles a day. I guess I should consider myself lucky. I needed a new windshield anyway... mine looks like it's been sand-blasted because of all the chips.

In FL, I'm almost positive that if you're windshield is cracked, you get a new one for FREE.

yeah, here in fl the insurance company has to replace it for free and not raise your rate.

I am pretty sure that glass is a separate policy from your regular insurance, so it doesnt have any effect on your rates. I know its got its own deductible, which in some cases is nothing or a $25-50. My last ins. company had a better policy w/ glass where I only paid $25. This one has better everything else, but I now have to pay a $50 glass deductible. Never claimed against it though.

I know my brother busted 3 windshields in his dakota. One was a big rock that cracked it, one was the 8-ball that he drilled and hung on his rearview when he stopped too quick, the other was just a little chip that he had from a pebble that irritated him so he finished it off with a hammer.

Im know it didnt affect his rates, and on two of them he ended up making money after them cutting him a $300 check and installing the new glass himself.

                        OK, update:

Insurance will not cover it for me because I don't have comprehensive on the Cavalier (only the Camaro has full coverage). However, I am getting a real good deal from Safelight Autoglass. $266.00 and they come to the house to do it. Not a bad deal. Anyone that needs their number in the future, it's: 1-800-800-2727.

I believe I had them do my camaro windshield and they did a **** job, I wouldn't take it back to them. Least not to the ones here in MD. **** was half assed and messy looking, not to mention the air that passed through it you could hear OVER the loudmouth.

Oh great.. thanks for the words of confindence... lol. Well, it's my commuter car and I'll be there making sure that the job is done right anyway, since they come directly to the house. There is a life-time warranty too, so if they don't do it right, I'll be calling them up to come back and fix any mistakes. Hopefully, though, that won't happen.

So, I got it fixed last week by Safelight Auto Glass. The guy removed and replaced everything in what I thought was record time: approx. 15 minutes!! Anyway, I was waiting to see how it would hold up in the heavy downpour later that day and during the week. It is EXCELLENT. I think this was a blessing in disguise because I can see out my windshield clearly now! (it previously looked like it was sandblasted from all the rock chips). Anyway, I called the trucking company that kicked up the rock and broke the windshield and they told me to submit all of the information to them. They said "we'll see if our insurance will cover it". They were giving me a little bit of a hard time over the phone, but I figured it's worth a shot anyway. The windshield cost me $266.00. So onto the last step... sending a copy of the police report and the receipt from safelight, certified mail.
