take a look at DVDShrink software
there is a good write up on like dvdshrink.org or something
also some movies are copy protected
you will need to copy the files to your hard drive with dvd decrypter first, then open the files with dvd shrink to copy to a dvd
you will also need dvd burning software such as nero
the free version on nero.com will allow dvdshrink to burn to a blank dvd
btw buy a decent name dvd or they wont last
I just bought a 50 pack of sony dvds from best buy for 19.99

DVD movies are encrypted.
There is a piece of shareware around called DVD Decrypter which allows you to extract files from DVD to your Hard Drive. You can then use DVD Shrink to compress the file to fit onto a recordable disc.
