  • Flag Burning...should it be illegal or legal

This is being debated and discussed in the House right now and it seems that it might pass this time.

It didn't pass 3 times before. But if it does pass, it is a sure thing that President Bush sign and be part of the Amendment, which may take about 7 years or so.

So, we are all Americans here and we do have freedom of speech. You guys are welcome to voice it here. If flag burning should be legal or illegal.

Please, PLEASE. Do not attack anybody who's opinion and veiw point might be different from yours.

It should be legal to burn the USA flag, it's part of our freedom of expression, and a part of our freedom of speech. To banned would mean banning our rights as an American.

It should be illegal to burn the USA flag because it represents our country and what it stands for. To disrespect it is to disrespect this country and the men and women who fought so hard to make this country what it is.

I voted for making it illegal. Because to me the Flag is a sacred symbol of what made this country what it is today. I don't think it will hinder our freedom at all if we choose to make it illegal to burn or desecrate it. There are other means of protest but to do that to a symbol is to do it to all of us. The Flag represents us as a whole.

I think its bad that we need amendments to legalize a flag burning....ya the flag represents our country and I personally would never burn a flag, but we are the land of the free. But there shouldnt have to be a law for it, thats the sad part...I voted legal to burn and exercise our rights if need be.

I've recently come to the realization that the gov't needs to stay out of our business.

its 50%/50% right now. i voted for it to be legal, i dont understand why it shuldnt be legal?ive ben to two pro-peace/anti-war what ever you want to call them, and there were flag burnings. i dont see anything wrong with it.its basicly shows that we dont approve of what the goverment is doing, not all of it is done in a anti-america fashion.hopefully this wont get locked. im young yea, but i love to talk about polotics, very interesting stuff.

I'm pretty sure it's illegal right now.

If you hate this country so bad that you feel the need to burn the flag in protest, go live the fvck somewhere else.

no one said anything about "hateing this country" it really depends on the situation, in my mind its more of a symbol that we dont agree with what that country is doing. I , in no way "hate" our country. we clearly have very different opinions on this.i hope this doesnt get locked.

actually, it IS legal (protected within the 1st Ammendment under the Speech Act).

loser's right; not everyone who does it hates this country.

you also have to realize something...some people ::cough::BUSH:cough:: will rally behind this "symbol" to get all the so-called patriotic brainwashed idiots to agree with their position, so they may quitely ***-rape us with bs legislation.

and speaking of such "patriotic" fanatics...I suppose they only buy american made goods, and don't support the chinese economy, and the massive exodus of employment opportunities overseas, yes?? and surely they don't support our "dependence" on foreign oil.

smells like hypocrisy, no better than the religious freaks.

i love this country, and what the original patriots stood for, but apparently, patriotism isn't what it used to be.

fighting to keep your rights used to be patriotic, now it's considered terrorism?? seems like an agenda not involving the interest of society.

newsflash to the dumbfounded flagwavers: the troops don't fight for your freedoms... ACLU does.

troops merely carry out the orders of Congress, which decides what laws to keep, and which to repeal.

i'll admit, we have a LOT of priveliges and considerable wealth in this country, but the class system has to go; the haves get all the political clout, which deprives the rest of us from having a say in anything, and the have-nots get hung out to dry; I just wish many of the have-nots would stop being so gullible, and put their flags away for a minute to think about what's really going on.
