Meeting people on the internet

Has anyone met anybody on the internet that they have been talking to? This goes for this board or a dating board... whatever. I am thinking of meeting someone from the internet but I am sure as hell not going by myself. I am bringing a guy friend. [img]smile.gif[/img] What do you all think?

I've done it a few times
sometimes you get freaks
always go in a public place
it used to be a huge taboo, but I think most people have gotten over it

I met my wife on the internet. I've actually met quite a few people online, I'd say probably 30 or 40 people. Most were pretty cool, but there were a few nutjobs. After one date, I had a girl threaten to kill herself because I wouldn't go out with her again :rolleyes:

The best idea is always meet in a public place, bringing a friend along the first time is a good idea to. Also try not to give you number out, always have them give you their number.

stick to cell phone numbers and first names till ya get to know the person. I met my girlfriend now of about 6 months online. It can be a good way to meet people if either your lifestyle or location makes it tough. She works nights so it was harder for her to meet people and my living in a small college town makes it tough to meet decent women close to my age worth dating.

Like everyone else said meet in a public place. I also got to the point where I talked on the phone a few times before I met anyone in person. If I got a bad feeling from that I'd let it go. Same if I got a bad feeling after meeting them in person.

I've met and even dated some girls in the internet.

I actually met my wife in the internet. The thing is, I knew her before. We both went to the same high school, same church, and lived in the same apartment complex. But through the internet, we gave more indepth info of each other. It was cool.

I guess people reveal more of themself in writing.

I've had no luck with meeting chicks online, and I've met a few. I prefer meeting them at school or through friends.

Have met some cool guys online though, of course they were local so it wasn't hard. Jsut met up at car meets and hung out. Got some cool car connections that way. [img]smile.gif[/img]

ive never met girls or anything from the net i have met some people from this board for the purpose of modding the cars or buying/selling parts other than that NO!

I think its just plain weird to conversate with a stranger over some lines of text.
