  • Ouch! Oil tops $52/barrel

Oil Prices Climb Over $52 a Barrel

This IS NOT a political statement!!!!!!
If you read the article you'll see several contributing factors, like the hurricanes, unrest in Africa, and shortages in production from the Gulf of Mexico.

"Nigeria, Iraq, hurricanes, they are not the cause (of the spike), they are contributing factors. The cause is demand, and refining capacity has failed to meet demand," said Esa Ramasamy of energy reporting agency Platts in Singapore.

    Pray for a warm winter!

      *sigh*

Bush may do stupid things, but do you think he would work on jacking oil prices up the month before the elections?

I have heard awhile back not saying its true but OPEC countries were going to try and jack oil prices during election times to try and get Bush booted.

Not sure how but why would the hurricanes effect gas prices that much? We had shortages, do to shipments but that was mainly during Charley and Frances, by Jeane they had a system worked out where fule shortages were at a minimum. If anything FL used more more gas during that time.

Isn't that a sign--that the countries we depend on for fuel would deliberately try to get the U.S. to elect a different President?

Bush has pissed so many people off it isn't even funny... inside the U.S. and around the world.

I'm a disgruntled conservative. I normally consider myself Republican with Libertarian values but Bush has temporarily turned me away from the Republican Party. Conservatives, like Libertarians, believe in limited government, isolationism, lower taxes, less regulation, using our allies to fight our wars instead of spending our own money and lives on them, etc. Bush has spent more in one term than Clinton did in two, he has expanded police/FBI/Homeland Security powers close to the point of tyranny, and he doesn't understand that terrorists would calm down if we stopped provoking them by sticking our noses where they don't belong. Bush may be a Republican by party but he is no economic/political conservative by nature.

Refineries can't meet demand because for some reason they keep temporarily shutting them down...now that seems like a wierd ploy by the oil companies that complain that they can't meet demand.

Just imagine the WONDERFUL things GB can do as a 2nd term lame duck president who doesn't have to be concerned about being re-elected.

I see it as a sign, that a small group of countries who defy UN sanctions, building weapons, and control most the oil in the world, are coming to see that that maybe this president isn't in their best interest, which is to allow them to make money, and keep in control of their dictatorships.

If Bush was for making money for him and his friends through oil and such, the rest of OPEC woudl be lowering the cost of fuel to make americans happy and vote for him again, so bush and the rest fo the OPEC nations are making money.

As for the refineries and such shutting down, not sure its the oil companies being happy, its Oil per barrel, the raw material we import before we refine it to gas.

                            not necessarily

the oil companies have to raise the price because the price of oil went up, therefore they really dont make anymore money than they would anyway
