And they wonder why insurance rates are so high for teenage drivers. Go figure!

I think he was speeding and pulled the e-brake (trying to drift maybe?) If he went off an embankment backwards that would explain the rear of the car being bent upwards. If the rear end locked up going 62, even a young unexperienced kid could manage to keep it on the road for a bit, at least to slow it down some more. Even going off the road at 62 backwards I find it hard to believe that there was that much damage @62mph

Does anybody remember the video that was posted a few weeks back of the brand new Mustang GT running down the track? The rear locked up on it and the car spun out and hit the gaurd rail. The car hadn't even made it to the 1/8 mile mark when the rear locked and it went around. Cars come around quick when the rears are completely locked up, and freak accidents happen, and if that was on a 2 lane road, then there's not much he coulda done. I'm not saying he wasn't out foolin' around, but I doubt that he'd bother making a big story for his cardomain if he screwed up.

The stuff you could do with Duct Tape. I see alot of F-body owners using that.

Yea umm... 62 mph and losing control?

62 isnt fast at all, now if he was estimated to be doing 80+ id say it was his fault, but 62? I do that on the free way easily in the slow lane.

As the myth busters would say "plausible" for the rear-end lock up. But for that amount of damage I'd say at least 80.

Heh, he sheered the tops of trees off 30 feet in the air at 62 mph eh? I don't even think you could do that with a ramp. But considering what he went thru, he's allowed to exagerate. :D And, what the hell do I know?

What I do know, is that when I worked for this power company, I had to replace a pole where a vette sheered it at 20 feet in the air. He was doing like a buck forty.

Re: Kid gets camaro... 9 hours later its hanging in a tree

When i first got my car I took it on back roads and practiced taking corners, locking up the rear a few times (at slow speeds of course) and breaking the rear loose to get a feel of my camaro and how it handled. A parking lot while raining was my next test. All this and about a week and a half later I am a better driver than my friend who's been driving for 4+ months. If you take the time to learn your car, you can prevent major accidents. But sometimes you can't help a mechanical failure. I am just glad that kid is alive. My friend fell asleep doing 65+ MPH in the morning on the way to school and woke up on the other side of the road smashing road signs and mailboxes. Thank God for Volvo 5-Star safety. A control arm and a new foglight and paint his car was good as new.
