  • Dealer trades-Any dealership people?

We're getting my sister an 06 Cobalt, and I think we're probably just going to have the one we want brought up here instead of going to another dealer to get it. My question is whether there's any chance they would let me do the driving for the trade. I'd rather drive the thing myself instead of some random person driving 80 mph during the break in period.

At the dealership I worked for dealer trades weren't driven in, they were shipped by truck.

Places I've talked to ususally don't truck them unless it's like three or four hundred miles away and this one is about two hundred miles away.

If you're gonna go to the other dealer anyways, why not just buy it at the other dealer?

Edit: I wouldn't let them drive the car. My friend had his civic Si driven from another dealer, and they totally toasted his clutch which needed to be replaced by 30k miles.

I work at a dealership, almost all dealer trades are driven, and only by hired drivers. They are usually retired people, so I doubt they are being beat on. If it does get beat on, its more so the people who clean it for delivery, but I doubt they would do anything to it unless its a Cobalt SS.
