• Considering selling f-body

A bit about me, I'm 24 and since I've been 16 I've had 9 vehicles:
87 nissian sentra (technically dad's) - I totalled
91 firebird (technically dad's) - Dad totalled
89 Brono II - sold at 488,000 miles! orginial engine
87? Chrysler new yorker - drove it to it's death
87 mr2 - um...don't drink and drive..
92 firebird (technically dad's)lady in tacoma hit it
91 mr2 - still have heavily modded
96 firebird - still have
00 wrangler - just bought, picking up this weekend

So currently I have:
91 mr2 t-top 5spd turbo, heavily modded
96 firebird 157,000miles current dalily driver
00 jeep wrangler 6cyc 5spd 80,000 miles

I've recently gotten into my carrier field and am making good money now. I'd like to have a work car that I can rack up 40-60 thousand miles a year on and not care. And also have a cool sporty car for weekends or for times I won't need 4x4 for work.

My original intentions were to use the mr2 as scca type car. While driving the firebird as daily driver. Well now I kinda need a 4x4, so (enter jeep) now I have 3 cars.

The mr2 I haven't touched in 6 months because work takes me out of state, and too busy on weekends to fix it. Spun rod or bearing one.... I'd thought about dropping a supercharged 1mzfe into it, I've got the cash for it but no time.

The firebird is getting high up in mileage quickly too, and while I haven't had to do any major repairs. I just look at the mileage and think it's only a matter of time.

So I'm 99.9999999% sure I'm going to sell both, the firebird for mileage, and mr2 for no time for it. I told a few friends I was considerirng selling the firebird, and they all came to the conclusion I need to pick a car and stick with it.
While I have went through alot of cars, my work (now anyways) I put so many miles on a car, not worth buying brand new ones. Just find them about 5 years old or so, drive them for 1-2 years then sell/trade off to avoid them getting too high mileage/maintenace.

I figure a jeep is easy maintenance and low costs, so this will be my daily driver/work vehicle. 100% sure on that one. (I'll see if I can beat the broncoII's record of 488,000 miles)

So I have my work car figured out, at least for a couple years.

So assuming I do sell both the mr2 and firebird, 99.999% sure I will. And if I save up through summer and into winter......calculating......I'll have roughly 40-45grand to spend on a car on January 1st, not including the sale of the mr2 or firebird.

I've been bouncing aorund with ideas of different cars to buy. I've thought of buying all sorts of cars. Everything from jag's to ponitac solstice to NSX to european roadsters to sixties cobra replica, the longer I have to think about it, the more choices I think of. I'd like something to keep forever type car. Something that will still be cool 20 years from now.

WOW, this has become extremely long, sorry to keep rambling on if your still reading this.

Anyways, to get to the point. Assuming you were me, and you kept the jeep for work, with above info what would you get for your "fun" car?

Didn't you ask this awhile ago???

Hmm....

I'd say sell both the firebird and the MR2, and get an LS1

Yeah, I did. I think that was when I was debating which car to sell mr2/firebird. I've decided to sell both now.
I'm kinda indecisive.

But yeah I've also thought of buying a 01 or 02, low mileage ls1 t-top 6spd, I know this is a f-body site and may be slightly impartial to f-body. But I think I may want something else. Something I won't see 5 of on my way to the store. Thats one thing I liked about my mr2, I very rarely ever saw another one.

So yeah add that as a variable to the equation. Something that isn't common.

$40-50k on a car and you plan on just driving it on the weekends...

used C5 + mods = badass car

OR wait and see how much the new cobra is gonna cost.

I agree w/ the c5 idea. you can get a 97,98,99 for pretty cheap, which gives you a good amount left over if you want to mod it or anything. best plan in my eyes ;)

Go with a 350Z or G35. You would have money left over to mod it with and it will ALWAYS get looks.

Sell all three and buy a brand new hybrid that gets 50+ mpg and an older 4x4 truck for work. Then save up and buy the T/A or Vette down the road.

That's what I would do at least.

Used C6 by that time.

I bet it would be that price. Growl.

Some cars that are at the top of my list are:
Lotus elise -- if I'll fit?? I'm 5'11 and 225lbs
Pontiac Solstice -- then heavily modd, if the car ever gets produced
Acura NSX -- around mid 90's, low miles, then do front mod, so it looks like a new one :D Then lots more mods.
Porsche 911 -- 99ish
Mercedes SLK class AMG -- 55 or 350

I'm thinking more in the line of performance right out of the box, then spenidng tons of cash on modds. Or class sport fast type car.

Also I'd really like a cobra replica, those can be made super fast. And those will never be out of style.

What? </font>
I'd considered a hybrid for my work vehicle if there was a decent 4x4 hybrid out there. That could actual get off road. I get paid 40.5 cents per mile. at 50,000 miles thats 20G a year in mileage alone, minus lets say (ford ecsape hybrid) 30mpg at $2.00 a gallon is $3333.00 in gas for hybrid. While at 17mpg for a jeep wrangler almost $5900.00
--- jeep's mileage $14,100
--- hybrid's mileage $16667

So if I did have a hybrid for work I'd pick up an extra $2600.00 a year in mileage alone, not to mention extra tax break for a hybrid.

But still I'd rather have a Jeep wrangler, it'll last longer, more reliable. And IMO hybrid's just have more parts to break, and higher maintenance.
