dont go to UTI. i know i was but now that im in a tech school. i have been told things. you dont get a degree from there and you can go to a two year college with a program as good if not better than theres and actually get a degree along with your certification. just trying to help out. mechanics make a pretty penny too. by the way, i have been told by military guys in my class, they get 1000 dollars a month untouched by the government for going to school for 4 years. something to think about if you dont know about i already.

BLLDOG, I go to UTI and im getting a degree. Also UTI is directly affiliated with many of the big time manufactures who run their training programs threw UTI that only take UTI grads. I wouldnt listen to everything your told and take it to heart just because some random dude tells you
Rocco, Yes and No about the opportunities, most dealers wont hire you these days other then for a level 1 tech if your not factory trained for that specific brand.

A friend of a friend works at a Ford dealership, once he gets the ford certification I think they make pretty decent money (60k)

It depends on where you are, what you do, who you work for and if you're hourly or get paid per job.

Me? I'm a tech at a shop, I do brakes, suspensions, alignments and carburated engine work, along with oil changes, trans services, radiator flushes and all the little things. I'm G1 smog certified, and working on getting a G2.

Right now I'm making 15/hr. Soon as I get a G2 I can be making as much as 22-25 depending on which shop I end up working at. But that's just for smogs.. Mechanics rates are all over the place, but I'd figure a good mechanic working on a per-job basis can probably make 200-375 a day average.
