they dont bother me, when a salesman comes up to me while i'm looking, all 20 of them, i tell them that if i need something, i will find them. when i do need something i say all i want to know is the price, if they dont give me that, and try the name/number crap i flip out on them, i tell them i just want to know how much the ****ing car costs, that is all, i dont want to know about any thing else other than the price.

When I was looking for a new vehicle, I must have gone to about 15 dealerships for myself. I then went to a good 10 while my g/f was looking. And you know what? Out of 25 dealerships, I had about 4 really good salesmen/women. The other ones weren't even semi Ok. They were straight up A-hole pieces of sh*t. I seriously don't know how some of these places make their money with such bonehead jerks? Im a friendly customer too, I don't get it?
Oh well. Reading all this just really pissed me off again, thanks alot people! Haha...

I got to beat the piss out of a 06 Mustang GT 5 speed. VERY nice cars, I like the handling and the 3V 4.6L has a nice growl past 3k. :D I wouldn't mind one at all. I could buy one but I don't want $620 a month car payment.

When I was taking my car into the dealer service department a few weeks back I walked into the showroom and started to look at a new Corvette. A guy walks up to me and starts talking to me, and I tell him I'd like to get a C5 someday, because the C6 would be out of my price range...he didn't have a clue what I was talking about. Then he proceeded to tell me that the 'Vette had a manual transmission when I had already looked in the window and seen that it was automatic. Just because they work at the dealer doesn't mean they know anything about the cars they're selling. In fact, if I've done any research about the car I assume I know more than them.

Last dealer story... I had been dealing with a salesguy at the dealer at home where we bought our Trailblazer a few years back and he seemed alright. They only had base Cobalts that were on special all for the same price, and the one we wanted was a couple hundred miles away so I was going to have them bring it up.
When I told him the price he got back to me and claimed it was $500 under invoice and his manager wanted to let me know that it was probably a bait and switch deal. I tried explaining that the amount off MSRP the other dealer was giving on a nicer Cobalt was the same as they were giving off the base ones they had, but he started telling me how you can't compare MSRP and invoice is what matters. By his logic they make more money off base models and options cost more than they charge for them, but I didn't try reasoning. I just agreed with him and called the dealer out of town to let him know we were coming. Turned out to be the best dealer experience ever.
If anyone in the Bay Area is ever looking for a car, Paul at Novato Chevy is probably the best dealer I've ever dealt with.

In a couple weeks I'm going to go down to the dealership and check out the GTOs. All it takes is me pulling up with my car rumbling and they all pounce me like a dog who hasn't eaten in a month. Hell, when the C6's FIRST came out, I went and test drove a triple black, fully loaded vert with 12 miles on it. 63k sticker price.. Just turned 18 at the time, too.
I do everything on line, compair what I'm looking for and what "going rate" is for what I want. I'm pretty picky on cars (duh), so when I find the package I want, that's it. Show up, test drive, argue a price and leave with or without a car. I make a point to know more about the model of interest then the sales person. ;) -- it's a great deal of fun.
Path - Koons Pontiac - found through AutoTrader. (Test drove, drove home with car)
Skittle - Joe & Paul Crouse Auto Sales - found through AutoTrader (Test drove, put money down, came back for car)
SWFT CDY - private party - found through AutoTrader (had a friend test drive. Met half way to pay for car)
Contagious (Gus) - Country Club Cars - found through AutoTrader. (Test drove, put money down, came back for car)

When I went to the dealership, I wasn't even going to look at the GTO, but the salesman came to me, and convinced me to just come look at it and take it out for a ride. I never asked to take it out. He knew driving that car is what sells it and he was right. Try another dealer.
Step 1. I go to dealerships and say I'm not buying today but I want to look at cars. They ask for my personal info and I give it to them. They have to do that, it's a requirement of their job. I can deal with getting some calls. When I'm done they frequently want me to talk to another guy. I do that too, politely but not willing to be endlessly sold.
Step 2. I go to the dealerships carrying a briefcase. I say I've decided on a car and I'm shopping price. They're not idiots. They know the briefcase contains the dealer price of the car from the Net.
If you're businesslike, most of them will be too. If not, politely ask to see the sales manager. When I tried this method for the Firebird, I went to seven dealers for a price in step 2. Only one was obnoxious, six gave me reasonable service and price.
Of course, I'm an old guy. A teenager won't get the same respect. Try showing up in a suit. It will add years to your age.
Buying used is a different deal, but the same philosophy applies. Businesslike, polite, letting them know you've researched this, willing to go along with the standard drill, not willing to be abused.
