Hey all, I have been seeing a lot of bikes lately (maybe from gas?) but it seems like it would be a blast riding in one (or getting in an accident) but I was thinking of havin the bike to ride whenever i am just going to work or something and during nice weather. anyone got any ideas on a cool beginners type bike and also what would insurance be for an 18 year old with no previous tickets ;) im not looking for an all out performance bike, just a nice one, anyone got any bikes and pics?
thanks

Friend of mine just got a bike. He went through some class before his parents would let them get it. I'd say if you really want one go through a class and get your license for it while your trying to decide on the bike you want.

Ok.. basic questions...

Have you ever riden before? If so, what?

What are you thinking of getting? You have to have some idea of what you want. Cruiser or sport

What area of the country do you live in?? How is the traffic in your area? And are you willing to put your life on the line when it comes to being on the road with those people??

It's not really a simple answer to tell you what bike to get... but a good start is taking the MSF course, just to understand what your getting yourself into by wanting to ride.

oh.. and most parents are the same..."you can't have one while living under my roof!" so ... might want to tend that question to them before you spend money and end up out on your ear ;)

I just got a bike in June, a 2001 Suzuki marauder, it is a nice cruiser with decent power; if you have never ridden any type of motorcycle before I would suggest either a light weight cruiser or a small sports bike. Both types you will out grow in a few years but you will gain the experience you need before dealing with insane weight or power.

If you like the style and ride of a cruiser, just look for anything in the 800cc range, it has enough kick to have a little fun with but not enough weight to get a beginner into trouble.

If you like, sports bikes look at the hybrids like the Suzuki bandit, or the 600cc sports bikes.

As far as insurance goes, it’ll probably run you $3-- that’s about what my rate is, it depends on the insurance company.

I wouldnt suggest a sport bike...Ive been riding a cruiser for over a year now and have no problems at all.....I got a 04' R6 just 2 weeks ago and this past friday I was cut off and am now on crutches.....sport bikes are alot of fun but just like any bike on the road, they get no respect whatsoever from cars...I learned this the hardway, and am putting my bike up for sale within the next few weeks.....Im going to hold on to the cruiser to play around with on the weekends, but I plan on dying of old age, not some stupid machine.....if you must get a bike, get a cruiser, something light that can be maneuvered easily...but enough kick to get you out of the way of idiots that dont see you....

That doesnt make any sense. The ones with kick aren't light, and they don't manuever easily. Sounds like you are talking about a naked or open face sport bike to me...

And yur nuts for selling your bike already. You honestly don't trust yourself to not hammer on the gas anymore? If that held true for me, I would have sold my bike 5 years ago.

As for you DarkEcho, Never ridden a bike before? Buy an Enduro, and practice in some fields... :D Or just buy an old bike, something in the 600 cc range. Gain some experience and buy something nice later on.
