Can someone give me a brief definition of what torque managment is and how it affects your car?

you want a nice high, flat torque curve. haveing a peaky curve means you have to shift a lot to get any power out of the car. hope this helps

wtf does that have to do with a automatic transmissions's torque management? It controls the amount of torque going to the wheels to keep it smooth and stable, ie wheels aren't slipping. (not good for performance minded driving)

I am sure he will enjoy this worthless information.

Torque management is used on newer cars with automatic transmissions. During the shift the computer will decrease power so there is not a big shock to the drivetrain when the next gear engages.

This can be a problem if you install a shift kit. It doesn't render the shift kit worthless but probably decreases its effectiveness. Custom PCM tuning can get rid of torque management. Although according to Wester's (as in Wester's Custom PCM tuning) you shouldn't get rid of all of it as that is unsafe (not sure if he means unsafe to drive or unsafe to the well-being of your drivetrain).

Here is a link for you. Read the last question in the FAQ:

Torque management is over-rated. It's yanked off my car.

If something breaks, get a better non-stock item.

Removing it will definately wake up the car, however, you shouldn't be getting on the car 24/7.

in particular during shifts the pcm retards engine timing several degrees for a short period.

Is that why my friends 2000 3.8 auto mustang can get second and my car doesnt even jerk when it hit second?

So basically when people talk about removing the Torque Management when installing a shift kit, it means to remove the decrease in torque that automatic transmissions have during shifts? this way continuous power will go to the tires (which is what we want) without causing a stall in case of chirping the tires? am i right?
What are the options out there to remove the torque management?

Torque Management same as traction control?

no but its works with the traction control to retard the timeing witch puts lees power to the ground so the rear tires can catch a grip. traction control applys the brakes a little bit to help slow the tire. this ties in with the ABS system do do this.

Yeah, it is. If you have a 99+ Camaro (not sure about previous years) you have torque management.

The options to remove it are HP Tuners Software, Westers Custom PCM Tuning, or Texas Speed Custom PCM Tuning (they use HP tuners software).

I have Westers and my 1-2 shift is very firm and fast. Whips the head back a little bit.

never heard of torque managment.
