• Life long Career plans just took a dump

I have wanted to be a fighter pilot since I was 2 years old. I have been preparing myself for a career in the military as an aviator since I can remember.

I am now 21 years old, and I graduated from college with a BS a couple of months ago. I went to Officer candidate school for the Marines over the summer, and I was supposed to be commissioned as a 2LT when I graduated. My recruiting officer forgot to submit my commissioning application, however, so I am not a 2LT. I am not anything.

I currently live in my mothers basement and I make minimum wage as a cashier at a gas station in a crummy part of town. I talk with my recruiting officer once a week, and he always says: "sit tight kid, we'll get you on track one of these days." Despite the fact that I have completed training for the military, and fulfilled all the other requirements, I am not getting:

-a paycheck ($0 per month)
-health or dental insurance
-life insurance
-access to any military bases

If I ever do get an appointment to be commissioned, I can't even get on base to purchase a dress uniform.

No one in the recruiting chain of command can give me a straight answer as to when I will be commissioned and start recieving a paycheck. It could be sometime between April 7-????

I have a car payment, car insurance bill, and a massive pile of student loans to pay off. If I hadn't wanted to be an officer, I wouldn't have even wasted my time with college. All of my old high school buddies are making $45K-60K a year, and I make nothing. I am the laughing stock for everyone I know.

Enough with the pitty party. I am thinking of telling the Marine COrps to **** off. I have always wanted to be a Marine, but not if they are going to leave me out in the cold like this.

I think Naval squiddys are goofy, but I am thinking of switching to the navy. Maybe they will take care of me better than the Marines are.

WHat would you do if you were in my shoes? I am so lost right now, I don't know what the **** to do.

TOPGUN = Navy

Navy has more planes than the Air Force does, and I think it is one of the quicker advancing branches of military. Meaning, you will rank faster..

Those jar heads dont know how to do anything right

I can't join the Air Force.

I had PRK eye surgery, and only the Navy and MC accept that for aviators. Air force wants LASIK.

If I do switch to the navy, all they have to do is pull my records from the MC recruiting office. All the paperwork is the same.

Yeah, I was saying join the navy, since they have more planes than the Air Force does lol
MC is a department of the navy, so it should all be the same..

That is why I think it will be easy to switch from one to the other. I don't want to go thru OCS (officer boot camp) again though. Boot camp sucks.

The Navy's not so bad, I've been doing it for 9 yrs now. I fix 'em, not fly 'em though. Remember one thing, it's a small plane landing on a small boat.

Here is a joke to cheer you up.

I had two friend join the military right after h.s. graduation. After boot camp we are sitting around drinking like old times and stuff then the conversation switched to the military. My first buddy the marine says, "you should have joined the marines not the army" other buddy says "I wanted to join the marines but I couldn't.......get my head into the jar."

I have a cousin in the Marines, who is over in Iraq right now, another cousin in the Navy, not sure where she's at and my boyfriend is in the Air Force.. Out of all of them I would want to be in the AF.. I'm pretty sure the AF has more aircrafts than the Navy..

Hope everything works out for you!
