I have wanted to be a fighter pilot since I was 2 years old. I have been preparing myself for a career in the military as an aviator since I can remember.
I am now 21 years old, and I graduated from college with a BS a couple of months ago. I went to Officer candidate school for the Marines over the summer, and I was supposed to be commissioned as a 2LT when I graduated. My recruiting officer forgot to submit my commissioning application, however, so I am not a 2LT. I am not anything.
I currently live in my mothers basement and I make minimum wage as a cashier at a gas station in a crummy part of town. I talk with my recruiting officer once a week, and he always says: "sit tight kid, we'll get you on track one of these days." Despite the fact that I have completed training for the military, and fulfilled all the other requirements, I am not getting:
-a paycheck ($0 per month)
-health or dental insurance
-life insurance
-access to any military bases
If I ever do get an appointment to be commissioned, I can't even get on base to purchase a dress uniform.
No one in the recruiting chain of command can give me a straight answer as to when I will be commissioned and start recieving a paycheck. It could be sometime between April 7-????
I have a car payment, car insurance bill, and a massive pile of student loans to pay off. If I hadn't wanted to be an officer, I wouldn't have even wasted my time with college. All of my old high school buddies are making $45K-60K a year, and I make nothing. I am the laughing stock for everyone I know.
Enough with the pitty party. I am thinking of telling the Marine COrps to **** off. I have always wanted to be a Marine, but not if they are going to leave me out in the cold like this.
I think Naval squiddys are goofy, but I am thinking of switching to the navy. Maybe they will take care of me better than the Marines are.
WHat would you do if you were in my shoes? I am so lost right now, I don't know what the **** to do.
