• I failed smog

This is why I can't modify the Firebird the way I want too. I failed smog with a slightly high hydrocarbon. Even when the SC and part of my borla off and other mods, it still failed.

I was asked to prove documents for my mod (with CARB #) and especially for my Cat. Because the guy think that it isn't OBD II. So I did and he called the EPA to verify it and they still gave me a hard time.

Really bad to live in Calif. It's getting hard to make a living here and getting hard to do the stuff you want with your ride.

That's why I'm glad my cars are registered in Florida

Yea man seriously that's rough. I couldn't imagine having to conform to stupid emissions testing like that. What a waste. I very much enjoy living in Alberta, no laws/pestering.

But what do you think would make you fail the test if your SC and other mods were temporarily dissasembled? Seems kinda odd.

Maybe the guy doing the test doesn't like your haircut! :D

Yep... whats funny I remember having to take the cars through inspection, I think they got rid of it liek 2-3 months after I started driving.

              What's the CA standard for hydrocarbons? In Texas, it's 114ppm @ 25mph.

I test at 15ppm with an aftermarket cat. Is CA much more stringent?

Do you have the FMU that came with the kit? Sounds like you're running rich.. try unhooking it for emissions testing. Also, which side of the exhaust did they test out of? (Make sure it's the driver's side with the Borla)..

Yeah, everything is out. They even asked about the hood, if you could believe that. I'm going to get my injectors clean and may have to replace Cat. But I'm going to do it one more time before anything else.

Wow, I can't believe it failed.. the only other thing I can think of, is making sure the car is warmed up before testing it because the catalytic converter has to reach a certain temperature in order to effective. Once it is heated up, the hydrocarbons decrease dramatically.. maybe try high octane fuel also?.. might allow for slower burning and less emmisions also...fuel system cleaner as you suggested too..other than that... I have no idea when are you going back?
