• eBay or AutoTrader?

I have decided to listen to the advice of the experienced people on this board and either use eBay or AutoTrader to sell my car. My question to y'all is which one should I use first? Should I try eBay with a reserve of my lowest acceptable price, or just post it on AutoTrader and then list it on eBay of it doesn't sell? I don't want to do both at once as I need to conserve my money if possible.

    I woudl aim for autotrader...

seems most people who buy form autotrader do it local, I like local deals better on bigger items.

If your having problems maybe move to autotrader.

one warning about autotrader is read the fine print, I have heard people accidently sign up for the "wrong" thing and have to dump an extra few bucks in the end to get the full advertisement in the magazine and online.

Also I woudl hit up differnet boards and go to the regional sections, and maybe put a forsale sign actually in or on your car.

2 v6 cars I sold one was at a car show, other was through a local section on a v8 board.

yeah autotrader pulls it off like a pr0n site... for $20 you get an ad with like, 50 letters and no photo. to get a decent description in with a photo i think the price goes up to $60 for a week. don't quote me but i think that's about what it was in this area.

i think it's also about $40 to list on ebay, but of course they take a chunk for their trouble, as well as hitting you with flat transaction fees.

but, if you want to get rid of your car as much as i did, you are willing to spend 100 bucks to get the thing out of the driveway :D

if i remember correctly, when we sold my dad's second truck on autotrader, we got one picture, a lot of words (don't remember a limit), and everything else you could need. and it was run 'til it sells. i believe it was $70 or something like that. so you get full description, picture, and it's up there until you take if off for $70.

Is it worth it to spring for the ad with a picture or should I just include "pictures available" in the ad to save some cash? By the way, if anyone's interested, it is in the for sale section. ;)

honestly a pic and good description means alot

            at least to me...

I always hated no pic, or listing if its a hardtop, t-top, auto, manual, mileage, colr.

if you really want to save some cash, just make the first line in the description "E-MAIL FOR PICS!!"

most people won't even click on your car though unless there's a pic or it's a very good deal. but if you make that the first line, they might see it in their search results.

Autotrader, the dealer I found through Autotrader had 5 Birds, 3 Camaros and a few Vettes in fact all they sold were sports cars.

                        I too vote for autotrader...
I think I put up an ad with 1 pic and the "run 'til it sells" option and it was $60 or $70 but my car was sold within a couple weeks

                            Im talking from experience:

I tried both. When i sold my truck, i tried both Autotrader.com and eBay.

Autotrader pulled in WAY more people, i got way more responses, and it eventually sold it.
