  • WAS IT ME???

I have never had anything against old people driving in their boat size sedans.

This morning, 2 lanes road, I was on the right lane, stopped at the intersection and saw an old lady (70-80ish) drove a older modle FORD CROWN VIC with a license plate frame says "HAPPINESS IS BEING IRISH" so I figure ok she is an Irish.
HOwever her car was about 4 cars length behind the car ahead of her. I was like what the heck.

Then lights turned, we took off. A car infront of me slowed down to make a right turn and I changed into her lane. you know how old people drive, I switched back to right lane and passed her... right after I passed her, she HONKED like crazy and flashing her lights at me, I was LIKE WTF!!!! she turned and disappeared.

Have any of you had something like this happened to you?? what's up with the old people?? Did I do something wrong? (I know passing cars in slow lane is not nice, however what could I do if she is like doing 20 on a 40 road?)

STill kind of a vague account of what you did. If she was going rediculously slow in the left lane and you didnt cut her off then your ok in my book

I try to leave at least 2 inches between old peoples from bumper and my back bumper when I get back in front of them, any more than that is just overkill...

Honestly, most old people should only be allowed to drive on sundays between 4-5 AM for breakfast, and 3-4 PM for dinner.

AHAHA LOL! You know, sometimes I'll be driving behind some really slow car or bad driver, then when I get ahead of them and consider yelling or saying something, I see its a really old person who is totally unaware of their surroundings. I say f'it, shake my head and drive on. I just can't get myself to say anything, i guess out of respect for their age or just not wanting to scare them. I am talking about those *old* drivers, like over 70.. the ones you can see wrinkles galore and they look like they are remnants of the bing crosby/bob hope era.

i woulda locked up the e brake if it was at a "slower" speed....... her reaction time, being old and all, woulda been pretty bad new free car for u, and she woulda learned to not be an ***....

Kind of funny if you think about it.

We talk about older people. Make fun of em. Try to limit when and what and where they can drive. And the next thing you know, (if we are lucky enough to have good health, and not be killed by the dumb things we do) we are old. Then we are ones who are not allowed to drive exept on Sundays.

I bet she sported them coke bottle, bi-focal glasses. They seem to make objects in front of them appear bigger therefore scaring the living ghost in them. Her spectacles made your F-body look like a F'n boat probably.
Then again, they used to live in an era where speed limits were just fine to them and ridiculous to us nowadays.
My pet peeve is following a schoolbus during morning rush hour w/my 5spd clutch burning at every stop it makes. Thats so irritating!

When the red lights are flashing stopping is optional
you need to read your drivers ed manual again

LD, thanks for the Safety Sadie advice but I believe you took it out of context there.
I been aware of the flashing red light school bus laws since 1984 and as a kid watching from behind the bus with my buddies as far as I can remember so there was no need to remind me there.
I said my piece to describe the annoyances I encounter while following a schoolbus from behind and that's not counting the 12 cars in front of me. While I love rowing the gears, I dislike the smell of a burnt clutch and future repair costs attributed to suburban living around here.
I posted my response because the driver of the schoolbus was an elderly woman who drove too careful in my opinion and I seen better drivers than her stuck in traffic.
Sure, kids & their education are priority #1 but smooth traffic control is paramount in this situation and there must be a way to relieve any kind of congestion on any road and one way is making elderly drivers take more drivers tests so we can avoid posts like these.
It's been proven that states which had adopted the higher speed limit actually showed greater improvement in their overall statewide fatality rates than those states which maintained the lower maximum speed limit.
I wish children in schoolbuses would be jettisioned off to school like Elroy in The Jetsons but that's in my next life.

I will not tolerate slow drivers that disregard the law if they feel they own the road, they are a danger to us. All we can do is to flip them the bird, they need to be reminded.
