Mexico Defends Guide for Illegal Immigrants By VOA News
    05-January-2005 1601

Mexico is defending a government-published guide for migrants who want to enter the United States illegally.

U.S. immigration-control groups and at least one congressman have criticized the booklet, saying Mexico is promoting illegal immigration.

The 32-page booklet is entitled "Guide for the Mexican Migrant." Using comic-book style pictures, it offers safety tips such as how to avoid dehydration while walking through desert areas on the U.S.-Mexican border.

The Mexican government is distributing more than one million copies of the guide.

Congressman J.D. Hayworth has condemned the booklet, calling it an attack on U.S. sovereignty.

But Mexican diplomats say the guide is designed to reduce the number of migrant deaths, which rose to more than 300 in 2003. Dangers along the U.S.-Mexican border include fast-moving rivers, rugged terrain and the intense desert heat.

Some information for this story provided by Reuters.

It is true that the number of migrant deaths have rosed but for the most part the government on both sides of the border have done very little to safe guard the borders.

Especially with terrorist entering. Mexico and Canadian borders should be more closely watched than ever before.

just be sure that the border patrol gets a copy of the guide. it will make it easier to find the "migrants" as they cross over.

</font>[/QUOTE]I'm sorry, but a wall is totally useless and a complete waste of our tax dollars. If you want to be more constructive, another Canal comes to mind. It saves having to go all the way down to the Panama canal and is a natural border...

yeah and you said the wall was a waste of tax dollars. do you have any idea how much the panama canal cost and look at how much of a shorter distance it is. i guess you could be kidding but if not then my reason stands. i like the wall idea better. build a wall and move some of our damn alligators and water maccasans over to the rio. better yet make the wall out of metal and electrify the bastard. this would all be cheaper than another canal.

i have an idea, a wall surrounded by two canals, but instead of canals have rivers of gasoline that are on fire. it would be fun to watch all the mexicans try to get over when they have to go through a river of burning fire, over a wall, then have to go through another river of searing fire. if they do get through, they will be too disabled/ugly to get a job anyways.

how about the fact that the mexican gov't is sponsoring these "books", basically encouraging people to break American imigration laws.

Why didn't anyone say anything when the Mexican government lobbied in certain western states against the removal of welfare rights and driving priviledges for illegal immigrants?

                            Ok, let's figure this out...
1 wall let's say 3 billion to make at 6ft high. How high and wide do we go? Do we build it back from the border, or on the border? Back from the border and we need gaurds on top of the wall and in front of the wall. Why? You can't just shoot someone for standing on us soil, and by the time you get down from the wall, they're back on Mexican soil. Don't forget about electricity along the whole wall. Why? We need lights don't we, or what's the point of making an easily scalable wall. How thick do you go, because it's easy to tunnel under the wall, especially if you're not going to gaurd it and put up lights. What's going to be the upkeep on this wall? When a Mexican gets pissed and rams the wall, we have to come back, patch, and clean up that area.

1 Canal costs lets say 10 billion to make. Ok, we turn it into a toll canal. Charge little. There's some upkeep costs. What are mexicans going to do? Fill the damned thing up? They have to swim or raft across. Big deal, pretty easy to see on a wide open river. How do we maintain a canal.... hmmm... well, we might have to fill it up? No I don't think so.

So no, I am not kidding.

Why blame the Mexican gov't when it's the United States who's offering benefits and jobs to illegal immigrants? Hell, if I were a Mexican I'd be running for the border daily. Once they get through border patrol the American gov't is standing there with their arms wide open.

And, there is a fence on the border. What makes you think they just won't climb the wall like the do the fences?
We need to stop giving them the same rights as legal US citizens. Granted they're human beings and deserve freedom, but do it the legal way.
