3/4 of the farmers and field workers here in california are immigrants. i dont like it, but the fact is they do the jobs we wouldnt, and california's economy has them to thank. that's why arnold and george havent and wont do anything about it.
And at the same time, they drive the payrates of millions of Americans into the ground since companies know that the illegal immigrants will work for peanuts. Does anyone know what the penalty for a business is if that business is caught employing illegal immigrants? </font>
isnt the minimum wage going up? and people say that they are taking jobs from hard working men or whatever, but how many friends do you have that pick fruit for a living? they are taking the jobs that other people wouldnt do. immigrants have been doing labor work since the 1800's, but the only difference now is that they are illegal. as for business penalties, i dont know if there are any because the companies would have been nailed by now. </font>
I think Mike is right. Immigrants aren't "stealing" jobs, just doing what we won't. The situation might be different if we had been doing field work all along, but we havn't. Hell, we went from having slaves to having mexicans, this country has never picked its own cotton

There's probably nearly 100 million able body workers in the United States and something like 4% of them are unemployed. So you're telling me that those 4 million people won't pick fruit in the fields to feed their families? There are no jobs that Americans don't want. The immigrants already have the so called jobs no body wants. So how can you say that Americans don't want them when their not available to Americans? It's all an excuse for cheap labor.

well its not like you just call a phone number and get a greencard in the mail a week later. I have a friend who's from south africa, been here for around 5 years and just got his greencard.

Just to give you an idea of what it takes to just get a tourist visa...

My grandmother has never been here to the USA, my mom is trying to get her a tourist visa. Now some of the requirements are...

              1) Person in the US must have more than $1,000 in a savings acct.

              2) Person in the US must be at a current address for at least 5 years.

              3) PErson in the US must have been employed with the same eployer by at least 3 years.

And theres a few more those are just some i remember off the top of my head.

THEN after you meet all the requirments its like a 1/5 chance they will give you a visa to come to the US.

So coming here legally is in no way shape or form that easy.

America has 270-280 million population, not counting illegal aliens. 55-60% (not sure)of that are able body workers. The rest are retiree and children.

Now from that stand point, most americans are doing Sedentary work and not physical labor per say. Like field, warehouse, sweat shop and other minial stuff.

America is a global economy and we depend on our good and services. We just don't have enough workers to fill in every positions. Especially jobs that most Americans don't want.

Plus with the labor that illegal aliens are doing. It keeps the price of produce, meat and clothes very cheap. If you don't believe me, go Europe and see how much the people are paying for theirs.

I really do think that there should be a more efficient program where they are able to come here and work and go back home when they feel they are done.

Ofcourse that's what working Visa are for right. But the Mexican gov. and US embassy has made it impossible for them to get one. So much corruption on Mexico's side that people are being charged 10X times more than they need to pay, these are ofcourse the ignorant and uneducated people. But even so, only the middle/upper class people can afford it.

Therefore it makes more sense to go ahead and cross the border illegally and cheaper to pay the Coyotes.

THat comic book style phamplet is nothing new. It was passed out in the 80's and 90's but people are making a big deal about more now. It just basically helps migrants survive and to be respectful to the law of the US and not to resist Border Patrols when caught.

Yes, they do jobs that most Americans would prefer not to do. But, if they're here, my beef is that they should pay for the entitlements/services they're getting by being here. Taxes? Sure, not alot, but SOMETHING should be paid to contribute towards wear and tear, etc. like we do.

Insurance should be mandatory if they're driving (just like everyone else), if they're caught without it they get shipped back (that's my biggest beef with illegals, no insurance/driver's license). They've done alot of damage to our insurance rates because SOMEONE has to cover damages caused by uninsured drivers.

Umm, that's it. But I have no beef with them being here, but they shouldn't be treated as citizens, but as human beings with their basic rights. They should contribute something back to the society that's enabling them to send money back home. ;)
