  • Does this makes sense

i was looking at this Honda Oddesy (minivan) for my uncle on autotrader. i called the number but it always comes busy. i emailed him and he replies to email. i told him that if i could talk to him , he kept telling me that he is going through a divorce or something; his phone isn't hooked up etc. He is asking probably 3k -4k less than KBB for that car. WEll today, i receive this email from him:

As I've told you in a previous letter at the present
moment I have personal problems - I am getting
divorced. I still have to work, at the same time I am
moving out of the house I am living at right now,
search for another house and all these every day
problems, so I just don't have time to meet every
buyer personally. Every day I have 2-3 buyers
interested in my car, however they very often turn outto be unserious about the purchase, sometimes it happens even worse - a few times I met true scammers. That is why selling the car I would prefer using a reliable service which is part of the Yahoo! company, recommended by yahoo.auto.com. I need to be sure that you are really interested in my car. This is a third
party service that guarantees safety to those dealing on-line. A buyer has to transfer $2500 on an account of the Yahoo! company, money will stay there until you become owner of the car, under any circumstances I will not have an access to the money transferred.
After the deposit is made, we will meet for to check the car and make your final decision. If everything is O'k, and I am sure this is how it will happen - Yahoo! will transfer the deposit to me and you will have 21
ays to pay out the rest of the sum. If you don't likethe car you will receive your down payment back within 2 days. I will cover all service fees. In such way both sides are protected and even overprotected in allpossible instances. Hope you understand my concerns.Email your reply ASAP please. Have a very good day.

    Thank you.
P.S. the car is in excellent conditions, engine runsgreat, the title is clear, no scratches, dents, etc, warranty included.

My question is that should i trust him? i can't call him. it seems fishy but my uncle is really interested in that minivan. btw his area on autotrader was philadelphia. someone give me some idea what should i do.

I dunno, it seems a little fishy. It's hard trusting anyone over the internet.

What is this company he's talking about on Yahoo!? I didn't know they ran an escrow service.

Go to the yahoo auto thing and get it from there. Then when you go to look at it to make sure it is ok, if its not what you wanted, you get your money back and he ends of screweing himself over by paying fees. If you go to look at it and it is what you want. Well then, its yours. Just make sure you will be getting your money back if you dont want it after you pay the deposit. Keep an eye out for anything else he may be trying to hide. For all you know, he may be trying to scam you.

You can transfer a warranty to a new owner. Some are transferable.

I wouldn't trust the guy. If he wants to sell the car then he will meet you in person. There's no need for any third party to hold on to a deposit. It's not like NJ and Philly are that far apart anyways. Play it safe and don't get scammed.

ok, i just went to yahoo! auto and couldn't find anything that this guy is talking about. i think he is a fraud.....i gave him my cell and home phone number but he doesn't call me. Also, look at those texts like he wants $2500 and i will have 21 days to pay the rest? what if i just took off? how is he suppose to find me? would you sell a 12,000 car , let the buyer leave with the car for $2500 and then buyer will have 21 days to pay you? even though it was a good deal but i think i will pass.

*buzzer* WRONG.. Warranty isn't for the owner, its for the car. When we check a VSC or a vin stat -- its warranty is under the vin, not the owner.
