• Need computer geek assistance!

Here's the problem.. I bought a Sony Vaio about a year ago. I had thought it came with 512 ram. Well today I went to install everquest 2 and it says I don't have enough memory. I went and looked and it shows I'm only running with 448... 64 short. Soooo I opened it up and low and behold there are two 256 ram. Sooo.. is there something restricting 64 or do I have some fudged up ram that needs replaced? If something is restricting it, how the hell do I release it?

I called Sony support line and since I've had it for more than a year they won't help me unless I pay $19.99 service fee. That's what the lil asian fellow told me. So I graciously hung up.

Sounds like allocated RAM to video

onboard video That's one of the things I made sure my computer didn't have when I bought it. None of the VAIO's in my price range had AGP. Sony is just overpriced for what you get. Remember the vaio w model, the all-in-one with the attached keyboard and like 700MHz, that was out last year for almost $2k? If you don't mind paying the price for advanced styling and design.

shiat.. i was just loowking through things and found that my radeon video card uses the mysterious 64 ram I'm missing... is there any way to fix this without buying more memory?

Sony and their stupid *** rip off schemes requires me to buy their own products so they can screw me over twice by having to upgrade **** through them.

If I just bought 512 from sony and put it in with the 256 will it work? Wouldn't that put me to 768? Or do I have to match.. so I'd have to buy 2 512 in order to make it work?

OOOOR could I disable the video card, install the game with 512 ram, renable the video card and attempt to run the game on 448? Anyone have any ideas if this will work?

I need some suggestions!!! I WANNA PLAY SO BAD!!

                Onboard video is satan's spawn.

I'd recommend finding out your BIOS information, learn how to disable it, then add another card.

But you have a laptop. So, this is when you invest in a desktop that you can modify.

This is why I stick to console games. I love laughing at the money people have to spend to upgrade.

Now that his question is answered...

I don't understand the whole "always having to upgrade" crap.
I built my own computer 4 years ago and just barely upgraded the chip, ram, and video. Not even out of necesity, just because I had extra money to spend.. plus the video card was free.

If you build your computer right, you won't have to upgrade for a very long time.. but, no offense, not many ppl know how to build a computer right

Rambus on the other hand, is gay. If you don't buy two over priced sticks of it, you have to buy a slot holder, to make the motherboard think that you installed two sticks.

Get this, I go to circuit city and buy 2 512mb memory chips. Put them in and start to install the 9 cds with 7 gig of **** on them. It finishes the last cd and throws up another error! I find out my direct X was out of date. So I upgrade it. I go through the install again and.... ERROR! I get on sony's website and they have a live help chat. I talk to a tech and we go through my system specs andtheir customers over for the extra buck. he suggests updating my video and sound drivers. Everything is up to date. He asks if I'm using a laptop.... I say yes. He tells me that the game was designed for a desktop and would not run with a laptop due to video and sound driver complications. I about **** myself. It doesn't say anywhere on the box that you cannot use a laptop. I told him I wanted a refund and he said it would not be honored. So basically, Sony is a bunch of worthless pieces of **** who find every way to ****

So now, I can either build a kick *** system to support all the games I want to play. Or just give up and go with a Dell.
