  • K-Mart buys Sears

The merger is going to cost Kmart $11 billion, and is the third largest "retail merger" in history. They've come a long way from when their shares were $0.22 a piece. I wonder if this is going to be a good thing...

    http://money.cnn.com/2004/11/17/news...ex.htm?cnn=yes

"On Wall Street, investors applauded the deal, sending Sears (up $9.68 to $54.88, Research) stock up 22 percent while Kmart jumped 16 percent in afternoon trading."

I found that very weird, our local Super K closed down last year cuz of that situation (bankruptcy I think) they recently had, and now they bought sears, whoa, thats a big step.
BTW I like Kmart, I buy all my crap there instead of going to the W

wow 2 extremely poor retailers that are both going down the drain combining... this should be interesting.
Also, interestingly enough - 2 of ****tiest stores ever.

how come k-mart stock holders get 1 "sears holding" (the new combined company) stock for every kmart stock, but sears stock holders only get 1/2 of the new stock?

The past four years they've gone way down hill. I started on the floor selling housewares, then moved to floor coverings until they decided to stop selling them, and then went to Gardening selling their Craftsman stuff before I left for college. Now they don't have associates on the floor to help customoers. They're just an over-priced Wal-Mart/Kmart now. Guess this is the next logical step.

If I'm not mistaken your job is to stock and straighten up. Only the associates in the register station can ring up customers.

The last time I went in Sears was to exchange some old worn-out Craftsman tools for some new ones. No cash left my pocket.

I can't remember the last time I was in a Kmart.

That's pretty pathetic. I typically can't make it one week without spending something in Target, Home Depot or Lowes.

I looked over the news today and did not see one thing that would make me change this pattern.

I occasionally buy some Lands End (owned by Sears) stuff.

I don't see how this merger will change the continuing downhill slide of Sears and Kmart.
I solemnly swear I am up to no good.

I think that's great! Sears is close to me. I can finally get my Martha Stewart stuff at Sears.

Well from what I heard and know, WalMart has been hurting K-Mart really deep and for a long time. I know several K-Marts closing because Wal-Mart was only a block away. My friend who used to work at K-Mart distribution center was making $18/hr. got laid off. In order to survive, merging with Sears was the smart thing to do.

I buy my car batteries at K-Mart for a good price and also have my alternator tested for free.

I buy my tires, tools and gym stuff at Sears.

But yeah, I've never had a problem finding associates at the Sears in Belden.

I've only worked there a week now so I only have a slight clue of whats going on.
