K-MART goes chapter 11, re-organizes their dept for pennies on the dollar, their creditors get the shaft for "billions" of dollars and now they have billions to buy SEARS. Its called sticking it to the man. Anyone can do it.

Get into a mountain of debt, File chapter 11 and turn the debt into a molehill.

Though the creditors probably got stock in exchange for their loans, which might be worth more now.

But Kmart already went through chapter 11, thats why they have money to spend now.
