So if I see someone running lights (no matter if they are DUI or not), I'm supposed to sit and watch??? Then some innocent person gets whacked, and the poeple say "why didn't the cops chase him?". Think about it, it's a catch-22. We are damned if we do, and damned if we don't...PEROID!

Yeah but there is scientific evidence that says some people will automatically run for no reason whatsoever. Just the "fight or flight" instinct.

I do not agree with police chases, unless a serious crime has occured.

Hypothetical suspect, let's say these guys were running because they had a 1/2 ounce of pot. Then the wreck and kill an innocent driver.

Was it worth it??
Lets say the guy has 1/2 ounce of pot and the cop doesn't chase him. He smokes it later while driving and plows into a group of kids.... was it worth it?
Those kind of questions are really quite pointless.
</font>
Sorry but I really fell quite strongly about this. Sure hypothetical questions can be made for any argument. But I personally feel police pursuits pose a greater risk than the few petty arrests they gain.

IMHO, chases should be limited to extremely low traffic/low risk chases. If the people who are running start blowing through red lights, it's only a matter of time till theres a wreck.

I remember there being a few police officers on this board feel free to chime in.
</font>
Pinellas County has a no persuit policy. They aren't suppose to chase anyone. If they are chasing someone, and someone gets hurt, the cop will get in some serious trouble for not adhering to the policy.

I believe my city has something along the lines of only being able to chase if they have proof the person has a weapon. Its a lot more complicated than just that, but i'm tired and cant think very well. K bye.
