• windows standby question.. help!

The way my computer is set up, i can't put it into standby mode.. or sleep (like idle or whatever you call it). It has windows XP professional on it. but when i click "start/turn off computer/try to put it to standby, its not an option. the button is there but its like hazed over, so that i wont be able to click it. how do i go and switch my settings so that i can put it into standby mode?? thanks!

I think you can push Left Shift and the shut down options will change to show "Hibernate".

Check your BIOS settings.

First check to make sure ACPI/APM is enabled in BIOS. Then:

Start button -> Control Panel -> Power Options -> Hibernate tab -> check Enable hibernate support box -> Apply/OK -> reboot.

How old is your computer. Is this a laptop or a Desktop?
If its a Laptop, odds are the company that made the laptop have their own software managing your power settings.. This could be possible for some desktops too (sony).. Try looking in your taskbar for power management.. If nothing is there look in your programs.

Hibernate and Standby are two different things.

Why do you want it to Standby so bad?
