• Ran out of gas

    So i was driving home from the city the other day ( i live in the cornfields...), and i had THOUGHT i had plenty of gas to make it the gas station in my town of 300...but i was wrong. I was probably driving about 70, when all of a sudden..no power. It didnt take me long to figure out that it was the gas. I threw it into neutral and coasted the final 2 1/2 miles into town. The last 1/2 mile or so, i was only going about 20 or so...and a cop pulled up next to me and asked me what i was doing, and i screamed at him....im coasting to the gas station! Im all out! He didnt even stay by see if i made it, he gave me a wave and took off. Filled the gas tank up with 15.4 gallons

     what was the speed limit on the road? cops around here are the same way pretty much. but when i was walking home from my girlfriends house last night at like 11:00pm ( we were watching the fireworks ) and the road i live on doesnt have any street lights. long story short the cops almost hit me. and then they start giveing me a hard time about being out that late. i mean i had a good excuse.

    BTW how much did it cost you to fill up? around here like 3 weeks ago it was $1.90 now its back almost to $2

      Haha Punisher that was funny I have to share my experience here also. I remember running out of gas on my way to the beach one particular morning. I was speeding at approximately 80mph and noticed I was running on fumes well below the E mark & gave it one last mash on the pedal along with muttering the F word many times to myself. Well the car sputtered and reached towards an exit ramp & I was still cruising over 70mph when the road curved uphill to the right and then the engine died. Many F words later, I thought I was out of luck so I threw the 5spd tranny in neutral & coasted for what seemed an eternity to a lone Exxon station. As I pulled up to a pump, the car was now slowly crawling & I saw it was Full Serve only and I was still muttering out loud. The attendant stared & laughed at me because he knew why I approached him with the engine off. I told him to fill it to the max and thanked him but he thanked me in return for making his day with a nice laugh to start his shift. It was one of those classic days with my beloved Camaro forgetting to fuel up. Never again . Oh btw, regular unleaded fuel is $2.30 here in CT and thats for self serve!

        I've run out completey once..... bigger fuel pump was just installed.... and I wasn't used to going trhough that much gas.

        Just recently... after the verter was installled... I picked up bird and had spare set of keys. This set of keys did not have key to locking gas cap. On my way home... car sputtered... I pulled over and had a friend get me gas

          hehe once, me and my girlfriend left our wallets at her place.

          We spent a day or two at my place, drove saw a movie, but didn't spend any money.

          I was low on gas... then we went and got our wallets at her place, but her car was having problems(overheat) we were gonna go to take it to a place to fix it. We drove and I ran out following her... then it started raining. we had a tank in her car filled it up filled my car up and drove got everything taken care of..

          once, my dad drove my car for a day or so, I got in it at home it was on E, I drove very fuel conscience to the gas station, stalled 3 times I was able to start it out, pulled off the road to the little side road it died, i had to push it like 200 feet to the pump... one guy started clapping. Said dang... you took that one to the limit.

            HAHA, good story. The first and only time I ran out of gas I was just cruising around locally (on UCO campus going to the gym) and I ran out. It chugged a little, I mashed the throttle, nothing happened, and I coasted into a parking spot. 7-11 was only like a block away so I went and got a gas can, put a gallon in her and then went and filled it up. lol I wouldn't want to run out going 70 on the highway.

                      I ran out of gas in the gas station before. I ran to the gas station to get gas, and fill up my tires for autoxing. I'm filling my tires up, letting my car idle, then all of the sudden it starts loping.

                      I'm like wtf is going on, then the car died completely I tried starting it up, then I realized I was completely out of gas I had to push my car from the air pump to the gas pump. The problem was, the gas pumps were uphill from the air. Talk about a friggen workout, the gas station was packed, and noone even bothered to help :rolleyes:

                        i ran out of gas in my blazer once and i was nearly a mile from the nearest station. so it kept shutting off and id have to pull over, start it back up and go for another couple hundred yards and same thing. all the way to the station. but at least i made it there!

                            </font>
i'm pretty sure its because our gas tanks are "V" shaped and as the gas goes down the needle goes down faster and faster.

                              I also ran out on my very first tank...bought the car with 1/4 tank and drove it home.

                              Not that that was any problem though...I didn't realize I was out of gas until I tried starting the car the next day. :D
