My tranny is on the way out. Maybe a few more days, maybe a few months. Its a '97 bird with 72,000 miles. Completely rebuilt rearend w/ posi and 3.42's. headers, intake full exhaust, aluminum D/s and a custom tune. I absolutely love everything about the car other than its re-sale value and what have been putting in to it. I had plans for intense racing heads, cam and turbo over the next few years. That leaves me with a car with a bb value of nothing and about 8g's dumped into it over my initial cost. cant do anything with it other than keep it as a second car for its sentimental value because there will be no point in trading it in.

Well, this tranny has thrown me for a loop. I still owe a little over $5k on it over 3 years. Do I invest $1300 in a rebuild?

Ive been looking at the used car market (as well as the new market) and the problem is there just isnt anything else I really want. Ive set a price range I want to be in ($14,000). Only 2 cars I have found is a '99 NBM Trans Am with about 50kmiles and a '98 BMW Z3 with equivilant miles. I have found others, but I deffinately want to have stick again in my next car.

    So, what do you suggest?

if you are not sure what car you want then stick with the one you got. you'll most likely make a decision you will regret.

Might as well just fix the problems and stick with what you have now.

How do you know that Trans Am wasn't abused like a red-headed step child and will also need the tranny rebuilt when it hits 70k miles?

Pfft. I just rebuilt my tranny 2 months ago cost me $1200, I have under 50k miles. No matter the car you will have to rebuild something sometime.

I know...... its not the rebuild Im afraid of, I can drop the tranny and reinstall the fresh one myself. No prob. Its just the reality check of spending this chunck of change on a car that values so low. Grrrrr.

Anyone have a used tranny? What years are going to mate up to mine. I know 96/97 will work fine. How about later years?

              Keep the polls coming.
