For everyone who thinks that getting rid of Bush will stop terrorists from targeting the US, or that this is a war for oil... I feel sorry for you.
France was a "friend" to Iraq in the past and voted not to go to war against Iraq, and look at what has happened. "You create a law in your country we don't like and we kill your people".
Terrorism will not stop and it will not go away. We will not win the war on terrorism. BUT we can hope to prevent some acts of terror before they occur.

wilk, you're not quite right on MAD. On detection of a missile launch, the target would launch also. The missiles would cross each other's fligt path.

Yes but now India and Pakistan are in a big arms race and they are trying to get a nuke sub for that reason. Also a few of the nukes the soviets had have never been accounted for and we have no clue where they are today well publicly.

There is a story of Gen. John J. Pershing in the Philippines at the beginning of the last century, and his response to Islamic terrorism there when he was in command of the garrison. Terrorism will never stop. The best thing to do is to stop the giving them media attention. Which is ofcourse will never stop either.

Interesting, I was listening to the radio. The only way to vanquish these terrorist is to turn Iraq into a democratic country immediately and to get their army moving and increasing. Once the army and the people become loyal to the democratic ideal, these terrorist would be vanquish. Again, immediately is ideal but not possible. A country that is so used to oppression, killing and terrorism will take time to change.
