I found a 88 iroc-z. so i went to test drive it has the 350 v8 with 5 speed transmission. Someone said on this board on the topic what should i do that it might be faster than my v6. HOLY CRAP! each time i shifted and hit the gas it threw me back into the seat bad. it spun the tires going into third gear. and it is 10times as loud as my car with no appereant after market exhaust. The moter does not even look use. it is $5000 i thing i am going to get it!

its a 50/50 chance i pray that i can get it?

Most TPI 350s I have seen run high 14s.

Because according to GM, if you get a 350, you only get an automatic, and no t tops. it would bend the frame.

Couldn't get a 5 speed apparently either with a 350, because the tranny couldn't handle the torque.

automatic 305's had a cam with lower power peaks, so it shifted sooner. <-- that seems to be the only truth to the above claims.

yea um, its definately not an all-original 5speed 350. the 350's only came auto.

the 305 TPI and the 350TPI engines looked very similar. its gotta be a 305

I still don't think it's worth nearly that much. I'd offer him half that. I can GUARANTEE it'll become a money pit after awhile, with the repairs you'll be doing. Might as well sell your 3.4, save that 5,000, save a little bit more and get a 60k miles LS1.

I think you're over-glorifying this third-gen a bit too much. Spinning tires into third gear? No.

it's a rumor. nobody's sure.

i don't think anybody short of the employee who authorized their production or somebody with an all-numbers matching car will be able to verify for us one way or the other.

do homework on the car's details...check the car's catalyst sheet under the hood and also the casting number on the transmission. cross that with the casting number on the block and you'll see just how original the car is.

Why dose it matter if it is original or not, it's still five speed.

I have put this car on hold found a 94 Z28 for $3500 going to look at it. it only has 90,000 miles but it has a rebuilt moter.

oh yeah the iroc moter can not be original it is to strong I know it has some kind of chip on it from looking at it.

And yes it did spin the tires going into third gear!

No 350s came with a 5-speed. I know their were a few special editions like 7, but I think they were later in the years in 92, but don't quote me on that.

5-speed was not behind anything larger then the 305 TPI on a large scale level. Vette had 350 tpi and came with an auto or a 4+3 transmission(money pit). It was believed the T5 couldn't take the torque of a 350tpi(they put out more torque then lt1s)

But did people still convert them? yep, guy at our local meets used to own a 89 Trans am, with a carbed 350, and T5 swapped into it, ran low 14s at the track.

Checked every thing out it is all original! I test drove this again and the 94 z28. This had way more get up and go power with higher speed acceleration than the z28. I have talked them down to $4000.

if it's a 350 and it's a 5-spd it is NOT, i repeat NOT original! 350 TPIs ONLY came with automatics. the seller most likely either doesn't know it's not original, or they're trying to scam you. if it's modified, that's fine, but they shouldn't try to pass it off as original.
