• Motor's out! ... but ....

Motor is out! New motor arrives tomorrow.
(Those who have sent me PMs, I promise to get back to you - this weekend has been a little crazy.)

After seperating the Engine and Transmission, we removed the clutch pressure plate and were shocked. I have barely had this clutch a year ... and spent very little time on the road - but the thing was already worn down to the rivits! Pressure plate shows lots of hot spots, fly wheel is just the same.

Now I'm at a cross roads, I had no idea that I'd be replacing a motor and a clutch that costs half the price of that motor .... Do I just replace the Center Force Dual Friction clutch and hope the fly wheel and pressure plate can be resurfaced? Or take a step out and replace the whole thing with a Spec Stage 3? --- suggestions welcome.

(Yes, I'd like to take out a personal loan ... umm ... yes, sir. I need some more parts for my race car.)

Holy Crap.

1) Is it under warranty?
2) Did you dump a quart of oil on the pressure plate before installation? I mean, you're missing chunks... It's like the damned thing was still spinning even after the clutch was engaged.
3) Someone's a bad driver and lets the clutch out too slowly (I'm not gonna say who, so blame it on whoever you want).

Hey Path I got my Spec Stage 3 put in just a few months ago and I love the way that it grabs. Yes you do need to get use to a little bit of chattering that seems will not go away until the clutch is no good anymore but it holds great. I down shifted from 3rd at 3000 rpm's and the tires let go before the clutch would think about slipping.
Glad to hear that things seem to have went well with taking out the engine, sorry I couldn't be there to help. Maybe if you are doing any work on it next weekend I can swing on by to lend a hand.

I've read a lot of bad posts on the Centerforce D/F clutch on this board and was suprised, since I've had a Centerforce D/F in my '72 Chevelle, '72 pickup and my fathers '69 Chevelle SS..

I've got a Centerforce in my Camaro right now and love it, I haven't had a problem in the past 6k miles since I installed it.. But it looks like you should probably look into investing in a Spec clutch.

holy **** , thats all i have to say
\"Well, we don\'t care how bad-*** some dude\'s N/A Honda S2000 motor is; if you go up against 900+ pushrod ponies and 750 pounds of earth-shaking torque with a wrong-wheel-drive econobox, you\'re gonna get a fast and furious old-school ***-whipping.\"

Honestly I have seen it in a few different v6 f-bodies about people just having no luck with Centerforce D/F, I'd go spec.

I have been researching it a bit, and just lots of people that have had problmes with them.
