  • Public Bathroom Question (MustangEater and other Janitors Inside!)

So there I was tearing it up on another floor here at work and I noticed the weird screws they use assembling stalls. I have noticed them before but have never given them much thought, but today at work has been kinda slow and I had some time to kill so I started thinking about these weird screws.

What's with these screws? They look like they're a flathead screw but 1/4 on each side is missing so you can loosen them and only tighten them I guess. Why are these used and if they need to be removed how? Anyone have an answer?

I guess you could drill it out if you had to?

Edit: Or you could get a tool to do it: http://www.robertbrooke.com/tp/tp_fasteners.html

well maybe if your good with a dremal and its a good size screw you could cut a slot for a screwdriver.

Why would they do that though? Did Janitors have a lot of problems with coming in the next morning and someone had redesigned the bathroom or something? I guess I just don't see that as being a big problem... I have never been sitting down pinching a loaf and thought to myself "you know this wall would look better if it was over there and the fung shway of the bathroom would be better if this wall wasnt here"

evidently you were not a devious young man, unlike some people i know. you never once thought about how funny it would be to take all but one of the screws out of a stall door, then letting it rest against the frame until some unfortunate person opens it and it crashes into the stall?

Not really... just kinda went in and took care of business and left. That does sound like it would be pretty funny though... if only I could go back and relive my youth.

Uhm once again, why do you think I am a janitor?

They are called security screws. They are used just on other things besides bathrooms. The are generally used on stuff you don't want people to unscrew.

We have them on all the doors to the 2 saferooms at my work.(to hold on a plate so you cannot try the "credit card trick" to get the door open) Actually not hard to take off as long as you have the right tool.

Why are they in stalls, I have no idea.

Hawgs, why are you asking anyways, I thought you knew everything?

So that hooligans can't disassemble them?
