I am not a very religious person, and I am an extreme liberal (but respects everyones views), however it really bothers me that they capitalized on, "the greatest story ever told" (which in my eyes, it wasn't, by the way).
However. I support, and would probably buy it and give it to a friend who is religious, if the monies were donated to a good cause.

Sick and gory? Don't forget, that's how ugly sin is. It got reflected on Jesus flesh. The Old Testament is alot more worst in description than the New Testament. Like plucking of the beard, beating on the head, and all sorts of degradation. But Mel did a great job portraying it on the movie. Alot of his references also points out to the Shroud of Turin and the historical fact of how Roman flog and flayed their criminals and the slow death on the cross.
I was sort of disappointed with the DVD. Because it has no documentary and special feature. But Mel did made it clear that he would leave that out to avoid further controversy, critism and so on. But so many of us from his Passion website asked him to include it.
Originally posted by 57s98Camaro: You guys know it will sell like a billion copies and make a billion more dollars. Which is ok, cause Mel Gibson gives a lot to charity. If anyone should have money it's him.
That's true. Mel has already helped Christian built their churches and asked them not to mention his charity. He also brought over co-joint twins to America from Guatemala to do surgery and Mel picked all the tab and money was given to the family to help them with their cost of living. It is rumored too that 85 million is given out to various charities and Mel is keeping quiet about it and won't give any info.
He also gave Jim Chavizel more money (millions) too. But Jim turned it down and asked him to do good with it.
Basically, he is living according to the teaching of the Bible. To give and be humble.
You do realize Mel Gibson just rewrote an already existing play right?
To me this is very very sad. However I won't bring my religious views into this. Enjoy the "movie".
P.S: The movie should be renamed "Mel Gibson's Masochistic Fantasy of Christ"

Originally posted by Pastor Larry Roques: I saw it three times in the theatre...picked up the DVD this afternoon at "Walley World" (wal-mart) The first time... My wife and I went alone so we could feel a little more at ease to get emotional. (we went to an out of town theatre so we wouldn't run into any of the congregation) The second time I took my older kids...I cried...they cried...it was awesome. The next time I went with a group of our church family...that too was awesome. Yeah its kind of sick and gorey...but historically speaking....so is what they did to Jesus himself. Actually...the scientific and historical societies of our learning institutions agree that the barbarianism of the time period was probably not represented as graphically by Mr. Gibson as what really occured. It was a blood bath. Crucifixion was probably the most horrific way to die imaginable. Liberal crybabies whine about lethal injection given to cold blooded murders....duh...wake up guys....The Bible actually tells us that someone who takes a life should die by the hand of the Authority in place. Crucifixion would definitely lower the violent crime rate of a society. Jesus was innocent....but his death was necessary that we might have freedom in his ressurection. Mr. Gibson finally produced a movie about a real "Lethal Weapon"....for Jesus sacrifice....gorey as it was put an end to Hell and Death for all who believe.
"Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free"
Galatians 5:1 (NKJV)
See an R rated movie tonight that's worth it!

You do realize the majority of the world doesn't give a rats *** what the bible says right? lol
Also jesus wasn't innocent. He was starting a revolution, he was crazy, and he would be mocked, locked up or killed if he attempted the same thing today. How many "prophets" have you laughed at recently? The guy standing on the corner preaching he saw god in a toilet? A man locked in an asylum because he thinks he is doing God's will when he murdered his wife and children? How DARE you say they are crazy and cannot talk to god yet believe that Jesus could... because he said so.

"for the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.
For it is written:
"I will destroy the wisdom of the wise
And bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent."
1 Corinthians 1:18-19 (NKJV)
I may sound crazy, but that doesn't change a thing about the reality of who Jesus was...and what he did for you. Blessings! ;)
Oh incidently...yes Jesus was a revolutionary.
He himself said that he was not sent to bring peace, but a sword (Matt 10:34) What separates him from what you would call a "prophet" is that these "prophets" which we laugh at ( I've never been able to find much humorous about ritual killers or nutcases who kill thier wives) is that they reaked distruction upon those around them for the selfish motives of thier hearts. Jesus came here with nothing and with nothing he left.
And one other thing...people have forgotten the names of most of the self-proclaimed monsters who perform such atrocities in the name of thier God, whoever that may be. Jesus is the same yesterday, today, and forever....and his name is still called upon today, whether in blessing...or in cursing. I don't hear many swear in the name of Ted Bundy. Twenty five years ago...I wasn't a bad person. I wasn't down to my last piasta. I wasn't drunk in a gutter. I wasn't even needing a fix. I was a professional touring musician enjoying some pretty good times...but I was empty.
That's when Jesus came in to my life. Thankfully, Im not crazy. I have a lovely wife, six great children, and two precious grandchildren. I've lived life with and without Jesus...I found that with is better.
BUT!....to each his/her own....right?
Maybe people don't give a rat's keister about the Bible....but maybe that's why this world is in such horrible shape. When I was a kid, Cokes were a nickel and gas was 15 cents a gallon. The biggest problem in schools was chewing gum in class. Murder was only a problem in the big cities. Look at the world now. Columbine,Iraq,Afganistan, divorce rates, alcoholism and drug abuse...for cryin out loud think about it.
Mel Gibson would be a millionaire whether he took heat for a controversial topic such as "The Passion" or not. Why would he risk his rep in Hollywood...cause in case you didn't know....Jesus isn't popular there either.
Signed

p.s. never seen Jesus in the toilet. Although he does tend to show up in places that would otherwise stink.

You should be saying you did all that for yourself. Not because of a person that was murdered so long ago. Take control of your own life don't let people lead you around with their "wisdom".

When you were a kid there was Hitler, Mussalini, stalin, mao zedong, constant lynching's of african americans, periods of sky rocketing inflation rates, etc., etc. You're right, the world is much worse now.
It is fine that you have devoted your life to false hope. Some of us accept the reality that family, friends, and memories are what define our lives, not a ignorant, dillusional jewish carpenter that lived thousands of years ago. The world is in it's current situation BECAUSE of peoples closed minds and unwillingness to accept peoples choice of religion, or lack there of.

The difference TMGSIX is that in those days people were shocked at the demonstrations of such criminal minds. Today... our kids live on an economy of false hope and imulate such behavior. In those days heroes were thought to be good people. Today...kids go and see the Matrix or whatever and "take control of thier lives" and kill a dozen or so of thier classmates and teachers. Before you are so sure about who has control of your life...think about this. Everything you buy...everything you want...everything you think you need is governed by people on Madison Avenue...Wall Street...Rodeo Drive...and in the board rooms of corporations around the world. The very computer you are typing on is the product of what you may have believed to be an informed purchase decision, but in fact was someone else's slick marketing schmooze telling you that you needed it.
Now "things" are a necessity...but before we go off on this "I'm my own man thing"....think about who really runs things. When it came down to running my life...I'd rather trust it to the giver of life. Man seems to have a grand way of botching things, doesn't he? You may not believe in God and I can do nothing about that. I don't know you, but you are probably a nice person. I just want to let you know that he still is and he still cares for you.
I'm not a nice person. You do not believe in GOD if you are a christian you put your faith in jesus. Jews believe in god, catholics believed in god, the people of islam beleive in god, christians believe in their "lord". Silly pastors.. they don't even know who they pray to anymore haha.
You talk about marketing as a bad thing. How do you think a revision of the bible was introduced? You like to keep forgetting that your religion isn't running on a holy book its running on bible v 2.0. Look at your own website. You use people's suffering to market your own church. What a bunch of worthless crap if I've ever heard it. You think your better then the business men? YOUR A BUSINESSMEN! You attempt to control people's lives directly. All they do is attempt to sell them a toaster. You attempt to "save" their immortal soul... if your wrong, you just commit an act of pure evil by corrupting the souls of the innocent. Pfttt, stay buried in New Orleans with that talk. The world may not be ready to hear Pastor Larry yet, your speeches are past their prime. Go back to the 1800s.
