I am not a big Bible thumper, nor do I preech to people and wish they'd follow in thoughts on religion but I believe in God and attend church on a somewhat regular basis.
I am Methodist and I believe in the Father the Son and the Holy Spirit, and I am not afraid to say that. The Methodist Church exists by the Glory of God to proclaim and exemplify the gospel of Jesus Christ.
I'm catholic but only go to church a few times a year. Easter and Christmas being the main two. I for one done feel you need to go to church to be religious.
But this thread was not intended for this debate, its about the movie.
I think both TMGSix and Pastor need to stfu. This is a car forum, and not the place to either preach your religion or bash the belief's others
Originally posted by TMGSIX: You speak so highly of your religion yet in it's brief existance it has murdered hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of innocent human beings. Modern religion is simply an opiate for the masses, the weak are taken advantage of and controlled by insecure and desperate individuals such as you, larry and thor. You both are the first to label and judge your fellow man, rather than accept him. You are scared to fail at what LIFE has to offer you, and thus seek acceptance and guidance from fallacies. God did not create life on Earth, nor did Jesus rise from his grave. In fact, almost everything in the bible ficticious and written at a time when uneducated people had to be told stories in order to grasp a concept of good-will or humanity.
Please by all means devote your life to that which makes you happy, but do not label me an athiest, and please do not waste your time praying for me. Instead, spend some time telling those closest to you that you love them, because in the end, family is all you have.
I don't judge anyone...God does by his holy standard the ten commandments...not the ten suggestions. Which by the way the very first tells you to acknowledge Him, thus dismissing your pretzel logic about omnipotence. And the statements you have made are indicative of an insecure, uncertain person who is still trying to figure it out. "I go to church, but am an athiest" kind of helped me out on that one. I'll close with this. Modern religion DOES NOT have all the answers, Christianity only offers Jesus.
And that's all you need. For your sake...you better hope the things you have fashioned for yourself are true...As for me...I have better things to do and have no more time to allow you to drag the cross through the mud....that's already been done once. I've done what I can.

Exactly. Thats why this entire thread should be locked. I myself am not religous in any shape way or form. Don't want to see "the Passion", and feel that the only reason this film got so many viewers was because of all the free publicity on national news programs, protestors, etc etc because it was and still is "controvercial" (or however the hell you spell it) .... I personally believe that we lay out our own path in life and don't feel that the story of some martyr thousands of years ago is really all that interesting.
Mustangs.. Come to the darkside...

The dark side is the path to the shadow of greed. =D
Larry, I respect the choices you have made in your life. I do not go to church and I am not an athiest, dont know where you got that info from. If anything I am an evolutionist. I am also not denying that Jesus existed, but he was not a savior, and did not die for the sins of others. I do wish however, that religious people could be more open-minded. Christianity is not americas religion, nor is it the worlds religion, only accounting for maybe 20%. I think it is extremely nieve to believe that billions of humans have been sent to a so called "hell" for not acknowledging your god. You are a result of a particular up-bringing. You've accepted what has been taught to you, that the only right religion is christianity and all others are wrong. Whats worse is that Christians are lazy, you all say that you live by god's word and the bible, yet not a single one of you do. I hope for your sake that you come to realize you need to enjoy your life on earth, because it is the only one that exists. I am finished on this topic.
Passions is a good flick for those who want to see an "epic tale", not as good as Gladiator or Braveheart, but not bad.

I was catholic for most of my life until I personaly saw the results of some of the molestation scandals, and I will NEVER again be associated with the catholic church, or any other form of organized religion.
The passion of the christ had one audience, religious fanatics, who already beleived deeply in the bible. The passion to me is 3 hours and 7.50 that I would really like to get back. My Hmong roommates came away extreemly confused and dissapointed like me. The movie made no sense to them what so ever. Even after I explained the whole story, their only reactions were "Thats a pretty sad, and stupid story." And "what kind of a god sends his own son to be tortured and die?" I couldn't agree more.

It just doesn't make sense for God to send his only son to die for- get this- not even all christians. You have to be like a "true" Christian to get into heaven, which is like 60 people in all of America.
There are 6 billion people on the planet, why on earth would an all-powerful God send so many of them to hell unless he was evil?

could it be that out of those 6 billion people, only those "60" are not atleast partially evil?
Did you know that Charles Darwin, the father of evolutionism, repented for his self-absorbed life and accepted Christ before his death?
And I apologize, It was someone who quoted you that made the remark that he was not a nice person, after I made the statement that you were probably a nice person...which I still maintain by the way. I respect everyone's belief's but also Jesus great commission at the end of the book of Matthew compels me to share his message of hope with everyone. I am not a rich tele-vengelist, which truthfully turns me off as well.
I have nothing to gain or lose by making myself unpopular on this thread. I make mistakes, lose my temper, goof up, and do everything else that everyone else does. The only difference is that I, through my cynical, Ivy leaugue college degree, middle-class spoiled brat self....found Jesus.
And that changed me forever. As I head for 52 years on this earth. I don't know for sure that there will be a 53. I lost an old friend last week who was 48. I led him to Christ a couple of years before his death. Hell is real. Ask any Satanist. My best suggestion for anyone trying to find the way is to not become so blinded by the ways of the world that we lose sight of what really matters. You mentioned earlier that I should expend my energies on things that matter...
family, friends, ect. Well I believe that100%. I recognize that without the providence of a Holy God, none of these things would be. This great land of ours was not founded by starving artists needing a place for free creative expression. It was found by those who were religiously opressed in a land where they could not worship God freely.
So they gave it all...to come here...so that two hundred and twenty some odd years later. That same land might regurgitate the goodness of God back into his face and call it freedom. I don't have all the answers...I'll say it again...Just one...the Son of God...as stated in the Bible..that crazy...radical...revolutionary...trouble making son....Jesus. (Historically Proven)
and to ReodDai....go find a Bible somewhere and look up Psalm 14:1

I know I said that was my last comment but things like this from "learned" religious individuals pisses me off.
 Darwin had nothing to do with common day evolutionism as its desputed by religious freaks. He said animals evolve based on their habitats. Idiots later on decided he said humans evolved from monkeys. It is a PROVEN fact that everything evolves. Evolutionism as a "religion" had absolutely nothing to do with darwin. So wether or not Darwin believed in Jesus was irrelavent. The man cared more about bugs and birds is whole life then where humans came from. Don't bring a great scientist into your poor attention at selling religion.
Btw: [[To the chief Musician, [A Psalm] of David.]] The fool hath said in his heart, [There is] no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, [there is] none that doeth good. Psalm 14:1
That means about as much to me as a children's bedtime story

Wow the darwin thing annoyed me so much I missed this. Actually there were two people that colonized the US (english only in this discussion since you said religious opression). Neither of them came because of religious opression. Jameston was nothing but adventure seekers (the majority of them were barely considered "religious" most were young men). Thats why it went down the toilet many times.
New England and the pilgrams had nothing to do with religious opression. They wanted a spiritually clean society where outsider's of their anal retentive religion wouldn't "corrupt" their youth. They were not opressed in england they just didn't like the fact they had to live with people outside their religion. So they isolated themselves in the colonies to create their own eutopia. (Which never really worked because they had to bring people that weren't part of their religion along to survive) In other words, go read some real history instead of believing everything they told you in elementary school 45 years ago.
Also the bible cannot be considered a historical document. It can be considered a bedtime sorry if you would like. Don't EVER say it is a historically proven fact that Jesus was the son of god. Prove that and I'll change my mind on religion. However since the idealogy of a "god" exist outside science its impossible to prove short of god walking the earth and saying "Listen up, I'm friggin God, now worship me".
This country was FOUND by people that were seeking gold, glory and fame. It was found by a nation that wanted more wealth and power for itself. Any religious fanatics that CAME here only came because to protect their claim england, france and spain had to fill the new land with colonists. Go read some ****ing history and get your nose out of that bible.

Ok, first of all, the satanists are even less logical than the christians. "ok, I acknowledge an all powerful, all knowing god but I choose to worship his opposite because I'm an idiot." I'll never ask ny satanist anything unless it's why don't you use your mind and think logically about the problem for a minute?
And second of all, America isn't free. Especially if HR-163 passes, we aren't free from fear, from anger, from problems, from debt, from any of the problems we have. We have limited freedom, and every nationalistic statement like that one lessens that freedom by spreading complacency. Think critically, mr. bible thumper, what is the definition of freedom? How can you apply a concept that abstract to American life today? People don't have freedom from poverty, addiction, or starvation.

Let me tell ya. That right there proves it. Hell must be real. You've lost all credibility and obvious don't have a clue what your talking about if you can't quote it from the bible. GO READ A REAL BOOK AND LEARN SOMETHING USEFUL!

you dont have freedom from poverty, addiction, starvation, problems or any of that b/c that would only be the case in a utopia.
here in america we have freedoms such as life, liberty, the pursute of happiness, freedom of religion...etc
