this morning. i'm getting ready for class and my friend calls me and says, "dude, call your sister. i just saw her car and she was in a serious accident dude, call her." so at this point i'm already sprinting out the door and into my car. i fly across town and drive by to see that she wasn't even in the car. i thought she'd been hurt. god that was a relief to see her okay.
well, my guess is that her car is going to be totalled out. some kid hit her car while it was parked on the side of the road. and these are WIDE lanes. you can make the road 3 maybe even 4 lanes, but it's just a simple wide 2-lane street in my town. by looking at the car, i'd guess there's at least 7k in damage. the entire rear end is smashed in, there's a TON of frame damage, and the entire driver's side got scraped and dented up. the rear axle got blown off the car, as well as the rear driver's side wheel. the exhaust system came off too.
there's no way this kid was going the speed limit. the limit is 35 on this road. it looked like he was going at least 60 to do all this damage. the car looks like it got nailed by a semi on the freeway.
the worst part: she just bought this car a couple months ago. it's a 2001 dodge stratus. very nice car actually. rides nice and not too bad on power. she paid 11k for it and still owes like 9k. now she'll be shopping for ANOTHER car without having anything to spend on a down payment. she has to drive to school, and her two jobs. she's only 19 so she can't get a rental car.
it sucks... michigan has no-fault insurance, which basically means "every driver for themself." so her insurance takes care of her and the other driver's insurance takes care of him. so he gets a ticket for about $120 and minimal damage to his car while my sister has to buy a whole new car. the insurance company will of course write her off a check if they do total it out (which i don't know why they wouldn't). god, i feel so bad for her. :(
