  • Need some help with my damn processor!

    I bought a new chip, upgraded from a 1700+ to a 3000+
when I put in the 3000, it won't boot when I up the clock to 166
The 1700 was running at 133, and this 3000 will run at 166, but when I up it to 166 it recognizes that it is a 2000+ but it hangs on the screen where it identifies the devices and won't boot to windows or from a CD-ROM.

I know my motherboard supports this chip, so does anybody else know what it could be?

I tried resetting the BIOS already too... no luck.

we need some more information. What is the motherboard manufacturer and type. How about the ram? If its PC133 it will not like the 166 bus speed.

That is what I was just thinking, I am trying to find if my gay *** ram is 166 or not, but I can't freakin remember what kind I bought, it was like 3 years ago.

      mobo is MSI KT3 Ultra2

I will probably have to buy new RAM huh? I should have just bought the **** when I ordered the CPU

Well, make sure your board jumpers for your clock multiplier is set to auto(if you have jumpers for that). That could be the problem.

166 with incorrect multiplier is a problem.
