• So I had a little "oops" at work last night...

Was working projection, and was breaking down "Meet the Fockers" so it could be shipped out today. Well when looking for a splice to cut, I compressed the center ring about 1/2in. forgot to snap it back out, was breaking it down, walked over to finish building "Racing Stripes", while it was unspooling.

Apparently the center ring worked its way up, while the platter was on ~80% speed and through the entire movie 15,600 feet of film across the room and smacked a wall, leaving a nice huge pile of film on the ground.

Only took us ~40 minutes to "fix" the problem and we had to trash the trailer pack. But still not good when you hear a noise look up and see 15,600 feet of film flying across the air and landing in a big as pile on the ground.

Feel lucky it didn't wrap around the post :D At least on the floor its not tangled up as much. Once I was putting together a movie and forgot the pin that keeps the reel on the cart, it slipped off and shot most of the way down the projection booth before exploding. Film can move really freggin fast

            yeah it can...

Once me and another manager was counting down registers upstairs, we faintly heard and alarm from the projectors, I was gonna check it but then the guy with me goes, its probably just a bad cue at the end of the film, but I said I'll check it anyways.

Wasn't my fault since I wasn't working projection that day but had to help fix it...

We were doing a Triple lock...

Run one movie through 3 seperate projectors at once. and the tension got high or something, that film brain wrapped, about 4 in. thick, then somehow, still was spinning to fast and the outer edge about 6 in. got thrown from the platter, and was half on the floor but still hanging on the film in the middle, half on the floor, and it was shredded and chewed up in all 3 projectors, and pulled/moved all of the rollers used to run it to all 3 projectors.

So you have this nightmare, and on top of it, ~900 people pissed because their movie stopped.

took us awhile and 4 people working on it to get it fixed but the brain wrap was a *****, never seen one that tight before, we were considering breaking the rollers out of the brain.

            all good fun...
