    Yea so i'm thinking about getting a motorcycle. There are soo many to choooose from. omg we have all kinds of kinds of kinds. I don't know what any of these mean. Here is the place I'll most likely get one from www.dothanpowersports.com

    sport supersport street are the catagories.

    YZF-600R? it looks cool. and its cheap.

      Get a smaller first bike, engine wise. It'll be easier to handle/pick up ( ;) ) and cheaper to insure. As you get better/more confidant w/your riding skills look into bigger bikes. Although that honda 750 dirtbike was a real education too....

        jesus, i just checked geico it was $5,060.00/12 months!

        at least progessive was cheaper!

          do yourself a favor and invest the money in your car. Or get another car. Its really not worth it when your sittin in the hospital. Which you will be. For im sure you've heard the saying "Theres only two types or riders, ones that have gone down, and those that WILL go down. Its a sure thing. Everyone of my friends that has a bike or has had a bike has gone down at least once imcluding me. Its not the bikers fault its the other traffic that doesnt see you. But if you wont take my advice go for an R6, or even though I dont see the big deal about them, all my friends swear my the gsxr 6. Cheap bike and it handles OK. The bike you linked too is more of a sports touring bike. I think its the same one MT Mike has. his is a bit older though. He'll be able to offer some more input.

            While I'll be the first to say "welcome" the the bike world... I'm also going to lecture you about getting some endorsement/training.

            The YZF600R is a nice bike, well... it's really nice! But I'm bias.. I own one (see sig).

            It has the comfort of a sport tour bike while still having speed and handling like the R6, just not enough to pull the front wheel. I think this is a good mix of the two. If I wanted speed, faster than what the YZF has.... I would have gotten an R6... but I think the triple digits I pull is more than enough!

              yeah, one of my buddies just got a quote for a GSX-R 750 (16, but clean driving record) and the downpayment was $2400 and total yearly payment of $12,349 at AIG!!!!! i told him it would be alot, but i didnt know it was gonna cost more than the bike itself...and thats liability only....OWCH

                Yeah, sport bikes are very rough on insurance...especially if you are under 25. Look into the older FZR600s for a good first bike to learn on. The "Idiot's Guide to Motorcycles" also has a very nice writeup on bikes about which ones are good first bikes and which ones are not.

                  fi you are worried about insurance look around for a good training school. i know here inteh north east we have teh motorcycle safety institute runnign classes. the classes are 3 day(combined class room and actual riding)
                  if you don't have your license yet they give you a certificate so you don't hae to take teh dmv test adn your insurance goes way down.
                  i am taking classes here in jersey in april.

                    definitely look into a class, not only will it help your skills it really helped to give me the confidence to ride on the street. The one I took was the AMA course. I think that's right. Anyway I spent thursday evening watching videos and talking bikes, then saturday morning watched more videos and discussed. After a few hours of that spent the rest of the day on the course learning to ride. Sunday started the same, watched some more videos, then spent the rest of the day on the course. Took an eval, got my card, that monday went and took the written ( on a computer) part of the motorcycle endorsment test. bam now have motorcycle license.
                    personally I wanted something more comfortable to ride on the highway yet still cool to ride around town with some pep so I went for an 1100 v-star. Nice bike, not perfect and really not much of a starter bike but i wanted to buy something that I could continue to ride for years. And yes I still managed to lay it down but the class tought me enough to get the bike slowed down and into some grass before it went down, so I managed to just scratch the tank, and no bodily injury. If you want some kind of sport bike you might want to look into the suzuki SV650 fun little cheap bike. If you do go for something big just remember you likely won't be skilled enough to really take the bike to the edge anytime soon.

                      My Buddy learned that the hard way after a week of riding on a lowered R1...you gotta be careful

                        Ok on insurance here is what you do. Where does your car insurance go through? Mine is State Farm currently and so is my motorcycle insurance. My Bike is $20 per month full coverage on a 2000 Suzuki Bandit. That is minimal liabilty and $250 comp/collision. Through progressive it is $109.16 a month I believe the reason it is so cheap is because I am a good customer with them. I also have 1 ticker and an accident on my record and I am only 20. I 2005 GSXR 750 was only gonna run $63 a month with the same insurance where as with progressive it would be $447.16 per month. Mind you I also live in Denver so it isn't the area. O and you will go down be aware of that like they have said above. I have went down doing a wheelie on my bandit I brought it up to high and fell off. I wrecked on a curve 2X once doing around 80 mph and hit a retaining wall and the other time just cause I ****ed up riding. Then I was hit by a car one time back and september. I walked away from all 4 of these because I was wearing full gear, gloves, helmet and a jacket. These things are not cheap to buy but they are worth every penny when you eventually crash cause road rash really hurts I have the scars to prove it. The best way to get a bike is to buy one that has been laid down that runs good. That is the way that I got mine and all I had to do to get it driveable was put a engine cover on it, put a new clutch lever on it, and a foot peg and I had a running bike for $160 in repairs.

                        O and TealV6 you can wheelie a YZF. I have a friend who can ride them for about a block on his 96 and he just has a pipe and I belive a jet kit also. You just can't do them that fast like an R1 can.
