Target banned the Salvation Army from their store front.

I know people wont like this but I love it.

I hate that dam bell. I used the side entrance to andersons yesterday just to avoid the racket. If they would just place the bucket out there with a sign. I would give more. They don't even need people to stand there. Just a bucket and a sign.

But I hate that bell ringing.
Its like a car alarm that wont stop.
The constant ringing makes me not want to give.

"Why not give bums bull horns."

People in need do not need to annoy people for help.
Annoying people makes them give less.

    I'll be shopping at Target.

thank god. i think some stores use that as a sales ploy... you have to get through them to get in, but once you're in, you don't want to leave because you'll have to go through them again... therefore, you have more time to look around and find things to buy...

i always drop in my spare change, if i have any on me, but if it were just a bucket with a sign, like you said, i would probaly toss in a dollar or two. those freakin' bell ringers are annoying as hell.

I think everyone needs to voice your opinion to target and the salvationarmy.org site.

I have to agree with this one. I, for one, am tired of going into EVERY grocery store or shopping center and seeing people waiting at the door with cups in their hand. I especially don't like seeing kids doing it. They should be selling something instead. Holding a cup, looking for handouts, is like begging, and I don't think it sends a good message to kids. Also, I often wonder where exactly all the money is going.... (perhaps in someone's pocket). I always give to the salvation army, but even they have some crooked people there. One day I was dropping off some items (lamps, clothes, ect) and the guys who load the trucks were taking things out that they liked for themselves!!! I was like wtf?!! That's for the needy... I use to ALWAYS put money in those little cups for starving/abused animals... guess what? There was a fat mafia guy out in Pa. that was collecting that money and pocketing it. He made millions until he was finally caught by authorities.
The only money I give now is to a local animal shelter for food for the animals. I usually try and write a check that way I know who cashed it. Other than that, I don't "give" my money away. I work too hard for it to just throw it in a can.

Around me, it's the local Wawa.

2 days ago, I went for a cup of coffee and there were 3 kids at each of the 2 doors.

These kids had no signage, were sitting in folding chairs with blankets and didn't say a word. They simply sit there with their cans waiting for "donations".

This is the reason why I like the org's that hold the car wash, cookie sales, etc. At least I feel I am getting something, anything for my money. Even if the product of service that I paying for is pricey.

I know people who have worked for SA and the employees do get first dibs on stuff that comes in. As they get paid squat and its the only perk of working there.

In highschool SA was the source for old black trench coats or jean jackets to cut up.

Yeah, Wal-Mart is where it's at. They're the sons of b*tches selling us out to China! F*ck Wal-Mart.

But back to the original point.....I think it's a great thing. I can't tell you how many times I've wanted to grab the bell out of their hand and just run like hell :D

Its annoying as hell - but its kinda a christmas tradition. I dont mind it - its just a bell. I think someone who thinks those 30 seconds of their life are so important that they cant have a little bell intruding into their lives are a bit pitiful.

And Shirl - youre a disgrace. You should be ashamed of your greediness. If you genuinely think that charities feed the cauffers of some mafia king, maybe you shouldnt target some little cup as your main way of giving to charity... ever heard of any of those cancer research places? united way? red cross? But of course why should you give your money away - you worked hard for it, and thats what really matters. Poor people wouldnt be poor if they worked.

This is pretty sad that people would turn the other cheek to avoid the "annoyance" that they think the SA is. It's a bell, you listen to it for 30 seconds and you feel put out by that? Honestly, have you thought about the homeless that benefit from the SA's efforts (the same ones I'm sure soooo many of you are willing to take time out of your life to donate some time to, to help out those who don't have a pot to piss in?) to help feed the families that are out on the street without a home or food in their bellies? C'mon! I KNOW you all have more compassion than what I've seen displayed.

I can't say that I haven't made the same statement myself, but fortunately a family friend was there by my side to correct me. I said basically the same thing that you all are saying (loud, annoying, I'm not going to separate from my money, etc.) and I never expected her to turn to me an say "Without the SA, I would have never had a Christmas." Ouch.

Maybe it'll take something to hit closer to home for you to learn your lesson, but I know my youthful indescretion cost me some respect in the eyes of a family friend.

A little compassion folks, just a little....
