(6 year Navy veteran, Naval Reservist, & Uncontracted Army ROTC - I'm kinda familiar with military protocol)

This is not a traditional fight. Our ENTIRE military structure has been based on fighting battles with people that fight by a particular code. Even in WWII we (the US of A) did things that weren't considered "friendly" (imprisoning Japanese citizens, firebombing german towns, etc...) However unfortunate though, it was NECESSARY on a national level. And before someone starts complaining about it, I'll be the first to admit it was wrong, but fortunately, our way of life continued, and I can sit here, write this and say that I'm glad they did it.

Now with this particular soldier... Haven't seen the video so can't intelligently speak on it. It's probably one of those big "grey" areas that pertains to the rules of engagement (which for those of you that don't know are "vaguely percise") (notice the oxymoron) and are some politicians way of putting rules and limits on something that you can't successfuly do that too. "with the first bullet that goes past your head all the politics in the world go right out the window" and thats the reality of the situation (unfortunate once again).

what he did was wrong under the UCMJ, theres no way around it.

unless that person amied a gun at him or fellow marine he muder that guy. or if he was about to blow him self up, then it would be ok

be i seen the video and i didn't even see the guy move and he shot him....

even if one of them was shoootin at them before we MUST offer them medical aid and contain them. it under the LOAC, the UCMJ AND the ROE.

what that marine did was wrong and he should be punished

i dont know anything about this situation.. but to deliberately shoot and kill someone on camera is only a sick minded freak would do. I say **** it, give them some sort of disceplinary action and at least set them up with some kind of psychotic evaluation.. did they watch it over and over again for ****s and giggles? post it online? either way tahts just how i feel.

now don't bash on me for this.. i dont know what went on and i didnt read one post on this thread

he didnt do it on camera for ****s and giggles, hes a soldier fighting a war, and there was a news camera with them.

Why does the camera make a difference?

It's a very simple equation. If I have to choose between my life and yours - or even better; the distinct posibility that you might take my life or I take yours (to be safe) - you just lost. It's not as simple as hey, I shot him, he's dead! If the Rules of Engagement dictate what he did was wrong, I'm still on his side cause if it were me - I'd want to be sure.

Really stupid. The media just wants to sensationalize this.

My personal opinion. I don't think rules of engagement should apply to something like this. The media didn't publish how the insurgents had a white flag and as soon as enough US military were visible to them, they opened fire. Or how about dead bodies rigged up with explosives. Besides, these guys are not in uniform but in civilian clothing. A great part of them are foreigners too.

Not much news on the aids worker. The lady who worked in Iraq for 3 decades and married an Iraqi, got shot on the head. Where is the outcry.
