why? they are cheap and reliable. They are pre AK47 guns [ak47 was made in 1947] made by many countries and yes including Russia. They are accurate for as far as you can see and the ammo is cheap. Its no different than any good rifle.

perfect for hunting.

Id use one if I was a hunter.
exactly, people hear the words "assault rifle" and automatically it cant be used for hunting </font>
Why do you need a 20 round clip for deer hunting? I have never needed more than 2 shots.

many guns, like the SKS this man was carrying, have to use clips. they arnt bolt action rifles. and like 5 speed bird said, they are cheap are reliable guns. I'd rather spend $200-$300 on a high quality used SKS that I can hunt with, and have fun at the range with when its not deer season. an "assault" rifle makes it no easier to shoot a person, or makes the effects of the round any worse, than a "hunting" boltaction rifle.

I agree, I know a person that has an SKS, but he uses either a 5 or 10 shot clip, After 20 7.62mm rounds, there can't be much left to eat. I'm just curious what you need 20 rounds for? And I think it does make it easier to kill a person, when you have 4 tmies more shots before you have to reload.

i agree you dont need that many rounds for hunting, i dont know why he would need that many, mabey he's a bad shot.

From what i've heard on the news, he was hunting on private property and shot the people who confronted him about it. So i dont think he went out w/ a 20 round clip looking to shoot people. mabey thats the only clip the gun came with and he didnt want to buy a smaller one.

Anyone that spends more than $200 on a SKS should be shoot.
I wouldn't call 7.62x39mm a good hunting round. It'll put lots of holes in stuff, but it doesn't have as much stopping power as most common hunting rounds.

</font>
Nope. As opposed to rounds used for hunting (correct me if I'm wrong), if you shoot a deer with an SKS, it'll go through the deer, through a few trees, through your car and then end up in a rock or something when it finally does stop. My friend wants me to get one for home security, because he thinks it's awesome that you can shoot through walls with it and it will still hit the person, leave the house and continue on it's merry way

You're right, I should have said Communist assault rifle. And I called it an assault rifle because that's what it is. If it were a shotgun, I would have said that.

Yea it will shot through a house. But not several tree's. Not much will go through a tree. Its to dense.

cars and walls are thin and easy to go through. a .22 will go through a wall. I kind of sort of knew a guy who killed someone like that. He meant to just scare him but hit right on target.

Why .22s are illegal for hunting in most places. They go forever. SKS is not as it might pack a punch but ain't gonna go a mile.

Engine blocks, tree's and rocks are not easy to shoot through.

SKS is a good gun and yea $200 is the upper limits. $100 is fair used. unless it has all sort of fancy hardware included. You can get new ones for $150

It is a good home security gun.
Though I also like the desert eagle .50

It will drop a person like a rock. They may not even be hurt that bad but will be put down like they were.

Course a 9mm is better for most.

---------

most cities still have gun bans. It may be legal by federal law but they are not allowed in city limits.

Yep, that's what I meant. It'll go through a deer without transfering much of its energy into the deer (stopping power) and keep on going.

I really don't understand why he shot all those unarmed people.

I know it won't go through a tree, I was trying to be funny. I'm not that good though. It was more of an exaggeration of the truth though. Yeah, I'm still debating what weapon to get for home defense. I don't turn 21 until may, so I'm limited in the mean time to rifles/shotguns. One of my friends is trying to get me to purchase an SKS, but I like those riot shotguns with the clips.

This spring I am buying two bulgarian makarovs (for CCW)and an AK-47. I will be buying several 30-40 round clips. Who knows, I might get an SKS. Are they commy, yes. Are they good for the price? Very much so. Are they evil cause of what they are and how they work? No more than my .22 semiauto clip fed rifle or my 12 gauge breakover. They can kill people too if you have the intent.

As for the transferring of energy stuff, think high velocity full metal jacket. These rounds are made to move. After all, I'm pretty sure it's against the rules of war to shoot bullets that frag the other guy, and since the cheap rounds for these guns are the people killing kind, it's just more economical to use them for the deer.

As for the assault weapon bullcrap, a big stick is an assault weapon. For real. The definition of an "assault weapon" is basically any gun that has over a 10 round clip. 11 rounds is an assault weapon. Come on guys, thats just silly. A gun is a gun. A semiauto rifle with a big clip is just a semiauto rifle, with a big clip.

People think they are machine guns or something cause they are dumb. They arent, they are rifles, just as deadly as your grandpappy's infield.

Also, on the firing through stuff, my friend's FAL(L1A1) can supposedly fire through an engine...after going through the car.

If you want a really fun, accurate rifle try a Hi-Point 995 9mm carbine. You can find them for under $150. Fun, accurate, reliable, and very inexpesive. The only problem I have with mine is no hi-cap mags so I'm stuck with 10rds :( Don't let people tell you they're crap, because most of them have never even held one, let alone shot one.
